While taking a stroll with his dog at the Frank Niederwerfer Wildlife Sanctuary in Connecticut, a Good Samaritan heard unexpected barking coming from the nearby woods.
Curious to find out what was happening, he discovered a neglected five-year-old dog tied to a tree by his collar.
The calm and friendly pup was freed by the Samaritan, who then brought him to the Tyler Regional Animal Care Shelter (TRACS) located in South Windsor, Connecticut.
Introducing Obie
Though the pup’s collar had the name Kobe on it, the shelter decided to give him a new name, thinking it could help him leave behind his traumatic past and start afresh.
Thus, we present to you Obie, a charming dog in search of a loving family that will provide him the affection he truly deserves.
The TRACS team began posting his pictures on social media, hoping that someone would see him and offer him a forever home.
Given his undeniable cuteness, Obie quickly gained the attention of many compassionate individuals who reached out to the shelter, ensuring he was well cared for.
“Kobe received a bath today, and as you can see, he is starting to BEEF out! His eyes are nearly healed, and he is learning about personal space and good manners. He is ENJOYING all the affection he receives from everyone he meets. Although he is still a bit wary of men, we believe this will improve with time,” the Connecticut shelter shared in a Facebook update.
Obie was placed on medication, which effectively treated his eye and skin irritations. He underwent a comprehensive veterinary examination, was neutered, vaccinated, had blood work done, and was microchipped.
Seeking A Forever Home
Once he was given ample time to settle in and was deemed healthy and happy, the shelter announced that he was ready to find a loving family.

“Obie adores affection and is learning a lot in his weekly training classes. He deserves to be the center of attention and we’re optimistic about finding him the PERFECT family,” the shelter shared in a post.
They also noted that Obie feels uneasy around men and would thrive in a home with only female occupants. While he experiences some anxiety and is still mastering leash manners, he is eager to be part of a family and is determined to become the best companion possible.

Previous Owner Update
In other developments, the South Windsor Police Department issued a statement revealing that Obie’s former owner, a 26-year-old woman, has come forward and was arrested.
The police indicated that she faces charges of animal cruelty and for tethering a dog to a fixed object. She has been released on a $5,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court in the coming weeks.
