While dogs are often considered man’s best friend, many are tragically victims of their owners’ cruelty.
Instead of enjoying their lives in loving homes, some are forced to wander the streets in search of shelter and food when their owners decide they no longer want them.
Anderson experienced a similar fate when he was heartlessly abandoned in Box Canyon, Mecca, California. This gentle Cane Corso roamed the wilderness for days, utterly alone, nearing the point of no return until a kind couple arrived!
Inhumane Act

While camping in the Canyon, Jason and Katie spotted a Cane Corso dog curled up near their campsite. They were taken aback to see an unchained dog alone in such a remote area.
Jason carefully approached the dog, offering him some water, which he gratefully drank. At the time, Anderson was extremely malnourished, struggling to stand, and barely able to lift his head.
Realizing the dog was likely abandoned, they reached out to Kirk Geiger, a founder of The Animal Rescue Center Of California.

“When we found him, he couldn’t lift his head, struggled to stand, and his eyes were bloodshot from dehydration,” the woman recounted to Kirk.
Kirk, a seasoned rescuer, arrived at the site within hours. Although Anderson was initially anxious, he soon warmed up to Kirk.
Kirk was astonished to find that within just a day, this resilient pup was comfortable enough to socialize with his new human companions, especially considering his previous wariness of strangers.
Another bond quickly formed when Kirk offered Anderson some food, and the big pup responded eagerly.
Following their introduction, they traveled to the facility where Anderson received further care.
Off To A New Start
The veterinary examination revealed that Anderson was nearly a year and a half old and, against all odds, was in excellent health. He was a lovable dog, charming everyone he met.
He also excelled in his evaluation test with the highest score, showing no signs of aggression towards other dogs. His exuberance and desire to play indicated he had likely received training in the past.
“He has brought us so much joy; we have completely fallen for this breed. Anderson is such a wonderful dog—sweet, goofy, affectionate, devoted, and incredibly smart, yet pleasantly laid back,” his rescuers shared.
Anderson’s heartwarming story quickly gained traction on social media, attracting numerous adoption applications. However, one particular person caught everyone’s attention.
Jay, who had a Cane Corso and a Shih Tzu, was immediately drawn to Anderson’s story. He chose to meet Anderson without hesitation, and an instant connection blossomed between them.
“We knew from the start they were meant for each other. Anderson responded to Jay immediately, and Jay, being a natural leader, had his attention,” reported The Animal Rescue Center Of California.
They settled into Jay’s car and drove off toward a new beginning in Oregon. Finally, Anderson had discovered an owner who could provide the love and affection he deserved, embarking on an exciting new chapter in life!
Alongside his two dog friends, he was sure to have endless fun with his new family. Most importantly, he would never have to fear abandonment again!
