The mission of a rescuer is far from easy. It encompasses not just the act of saving but also the entire follow-up process. Dogs need proper care and a fitting environment, which typically includes nutritious food, veterinary treatment, and social skills training. Sometimes, they even require extensive grooming after enduring neglect on the streets. Maurice, a tiny dog rescued from Los Angeles, California, exemplifies this situation. When he was found, his coat was so matted that he struggled to see at all.
He Was Found Just In Time
Suzette Hall, the founder of Logan’s Legacy, a rescue based in Irvine, California, received an urgent call about a severely matted dog in need of immediate assistance. As she was engaged in another rescue mission, she asked her fellow volunteers, Karla, Yamileth, and Nunez Aky, to scout the area.
Upon finding the dog, later named Maurice, hiding under a vehicle, the rescuers noticed that he was extremely nervous and had layers of matted fur obscuring his face, leaving him unable to see. “Poor baby covered in dreadlocks and carrying a heavy past of never knowing love,” Hall expressed in a Facebook post.
According to the rescuers, Maurice had lived on the streets with a homeless owner, leading a life filled with suffering and neglect, appearing almost unrecognizable as a dog. Evidently traumatized, Maurice didn’t trust people and rather than rushing into the arms of his rescuers, he remained hidden under the car. “I feel in my heart that he suffered a lot in the hands of a homeless person because the owner said that he had left for a long time and came back but didn’t let anyone touch him,” Aky shared on Facebook.
The rescuers made a concerted effort to coax Maurice out with encouraging words and enticing treats. Slowly but surely, he emerged and allowed the caring trio to place a leash around his neck. The rest, as they say, is history! Maurice not only left the area safely, but he also embarked on a transformative journey with his rescuers.
A Brand-New Dog With The Cutest Underbite
After a thorough veterinary examination, Hall and her team proceeded to address the last details: shaving off his matted fur to reveal the true Maurice. After a lengthy grooming session and the efforts of a committed team, Maurice transformed into a stunning dog, unveiling a remarkably cute pup with the most adorable underbite.
Upon witnessing Maurice’s transformation, Hall and the rescuers were overflowing with joy. He had truly become a different dog, ready to embrace life as he truly deserved. “Today marks the start of a whole new life, shedding a past filled with suffering,” Hall declared in an update post.
Thanks to Hall, Maurice was successfully placed in a loving foster home where he would receive all the care he deserves. In time, he hopes to find a permanent loving family to call his own; after a challenging start in life, discovering the joys of doghood is what Maurice truly deserves.
