Creating bonds with these rescue animals is fulfilling and heartwarming, but the thought of missing their faces after they settle into their forever homes is tough.
This narrative highlights a similar instance involving a woman from Missouri who fostered a stray dog in dire need of help—Valentine, who was pregnant.
Valentine’s Trauma
Upon her initial meeting with her foster mom, Brie, Valentine did not have a positive reaction. She was terrified and too frightened to even make eye contact.
Brie shared with The Dodo: “When she first arrived, she was extremely skittish. It was painfully clear how traumatized she was.”
It’s unclear what experiences led her to be so wary of humans, and it’s devastating to think about.
The abuse and neglect faced by some strays is a serious issue that needs addressing.
With time spent in Brie’s care, Valentine began to transform. Gradually, her frightened demeanor faded as she started to come out of her shell.
With each passing day, she made significant strides, and Brie couldn’t have been prouder. Valentine even began to wag her tail—always a positive indication.
Eventually, Valentine developed trust in Brie, and their relationship blossomed. It must have been heartwarming for her to find someone who treated her with the care she deserved.
However, attempting to venture outside for a walk was a hurdle she was unsure about.
After three weeks in her new home, Valentine took the brave step and enjoyed some time in the yard. She even dashed around a bit, which was absolutely adorable.
Despite her newfound joy in play with Brie, their nap times became some of her favorite moments.
Valentine’s Puppies
A few days later, Brie noticed something unusual about Valentine, and then it hit her: Valentine was in labor.
Fortunately, the process went smoothly, resulting in six adorable and healthy puppies now under her watchful care.
As a mother, Valentine’s instincts kicked in, and she became an exceptional caregiver. She kept a vigilant eye on her puppies, cherishing each moment.
These pups grew quickly and began showing their distinctive personalities. Brie noted: “They had their unique traits from the start.”
Now over eight weeks old, it was almost time for them to find their forever homes.
While letting them go will be heartbreaking for Brie, she recognizes it’s the best choice for the puppies.
She has successfully found truly special homes for each of them, allowing them to thrive in loving environments.
As for Valentine, Brie shared: “Initially, I took in Valentine as a foster, but I’ve decided to adopt her officially tomorrow.”
Brie has also established her own rescue organization called Valentine’s Second Chance Animal Rescue, located in Missouri, to honor Valentine.
Witnessing Valentine’s journey from a scared pittie to a proud mother, who now relishes her time with family, is truly inspiring. She is an extraordinary dog.
