Sometimes, all you need is a little faith. When Ladybird, a senior black Lab, found herself in a park bathroom in Destrehan, Louisiana, her hope remained intact. Her owner, facing a tough time, had to leave her there temporarily, along with a heart-wrenching note. Fortunately, this sweet dog was discovered by compassionate rescuers, receiving so much more than just a simple rescue.
Ladybird’s Story
Ladybird’s journey to the bathroom was a heartbreaking one. After spending 9 wonderful years together, traveling the country side by side since she was just six weeks old, Ladybird’s owner faced unexpected hardships that led them to Louisiana, where they fell on hard times.
Now homeless, he sought shelter while trying to save enough money for their return to North Carolina. Unfortunately, in the midst of this crisis, they found themselves without a car or a roof over their heads, compelling him to leave Ladybird overnight in the restroom. He left a note promising to come back and asked anyone who found her to treat her kindly, even leaving some water for her comfort.
Journey Home
Upon returning the next morning, he found Ladybird missing and quickly reached out to animal control, who informed him that she was taken to the St. Charles Parish Animal Shelter. Upon learning their extraordinary story, the dedicated shelter team felt compelled to assist this loyal pair who had shared so many years together.
Through their dedication, they were able to connect with the Virginia Beach SPCA, who welcomed Ladybird into their care. They made sure she enjoyed a grooming session and even treated her to a delicious pupachino for being such a good girl. With the support of various pet organizations after her story gained attention, funds were raised to cover her travel home, along with medical care and supplies.
Eventually, this sweet girl was reunited with her family in North Carolina, where she had the most heartwarming reunion with her grandma.
The two were overjoyed to be reunited after such a long time apart. Later on, Ladybird’s owner shared updates with her rescuers, expressing his gratitude. “Ladybird is doing wonderfully with her family in North Carolina! We had many questions about her human in Louisiana, and we want everyone to know that he is doing well and is incredibly happy that Ladybird is home,” the VBSPCA team shared on Facebook.
After enduring so many challenges, they finally returned to their peaceful life—all thanks to a compassionate community full of love for animals!
