Most of us have experienced the odd moment of receiving something we didn’t order.
That scenario unfolds in today’s tale – but this time it involves a cat in need.
One evening, while Kay Banks, the founder of Tabby Tails Cat Rescue, was enjoying a shower, a notification from their front camera alerted them to movement outside.
Hastily drying off, Kay dashed to the front door, only to find a stack of packages waiting there, with something particularly intriguing perched on top.
Unexpected Package
As Kay inspected the little black bag atop the packages, they were startled to see a pair of glowing eyes peering back.
It turned out to be an orange cat!
This poor feline had been cruelly abandoned at Kay’s doorstep, confined in a carrier and left to face the rain.
“He was terrified, crying the entire time on our camera. Physically, he appears fine, but it’s clear he was someone’s pet,” Kay shared with The Dodo.
After bringing the carrier indoors, Kay carefully unzipped it, hoping to coax the cat out and reassure him he was in a safe haven. Yet, the frightened feline wasn’t budging.
Having been abandoned, the cat required time to adapt and comprehend his new situation, and Kay was more than willing to provide that time.
Gentle Approach
Kay placed the cat into a kennel, hopeful that she could gain his trust gradually. However, this task proved to be more challenging than anticipated.
The cat simply wouldn’t cooperate.
Each time Kay attempted to clean the kennel or provide food, the cat, later identified as Jackson, would respond with hisses and scratches.

Nonetheless, Kay was determined not to give up.
Over the next few days, they spent time with Jackson, gradually helping him to familiarize himself with their scent and the idea that they were now his caregivers.
As they shared Jackson’s journey on TikTok, many viewers speculated that his aggressive behavior stemmed from pain.
“Jackson is acting quite erratically, but such behavior is not uncommon. The reality is that being surrendered is one of the most distressing experiences for pets. It’s typical for pets to become so frightened, stressed, and despondent that they act out,” Kay explained in a video.
Kay also took this opportunity to emphasize that it is unacceptable to abandon animals at the doorsteps of rescuers.
“Please refrain from leaving cats here without our consent. Exploiting the kindness of rescue organizations puts these animals at significant risk. I don’t close our intake facilities on a whim; I do it because we lack the resources to care for extra animals. If we had unlimited resources, I would strive to save every homeless pet possible, but sadly that’s not our reality,” they expressed in a Facebook post.
With an understanding heart, Kay demonstrates immense patience and determination to help this beautiful boy feel secure and loved.
With time, Jackson will surely come to realize that there is nothing to fear and that he is finally in the care of someone who cherishes him.
