Rescued Shelter Dog Overcomes Pain with the Help of Amazing People

Date:

Dogs are creatures that primarily rely on humans, making them often vulnerable and unable to solve their problems independently. This is particularly true regarding health concerns, as dogs can’t address these issues without human help.

Sadly, this scenario is all too common for dogs left to survive on the streets. Their only hope lies in the kindness of strangers who can rescue and help them recover.

One such dog, named Penny, found herself in this dire situation while wandering the streets of Las Vegas, Nevada, longing for someone to come to her aid.

Fortunately, her wish was granted.

Itchy Agony

Penny was discovered in a desperate state by compassionate individuals who rushed her to The Animal Foundation, a network of shelters in Las Vegas, Nevada.

As reported on their Facebook post, Penny was suffering from a severe case of mange. Her condition was so severe that she was in a state of constant itchiness and discomfort.

“Her skin is so severely affected, it bleeds. She has hair loss, open sores and scabs, and thick, crusty patches of skin.” they shared.

According to the foundation, this condition limited her ability to perform everyday activities: “It hurts to stand. It hurts to play. It hurts to do just about anything a dog would do.”

Nonetheless, despite her experiences, Penny retained her sweet and affectionate demeanor, leading her caretakers to endearingly refer to her as “17 lbs of joy”.

Penny’s caretakers provided her with medicated baths, antibiotics, and specialized treatments, and gradually, this brave girl started to improve day by day.

Healing With Love

Just six days after being admitted to the shelter, The Animal Foundation proudly shared a photo on their Facebook post highlighting Penny’s remarkable progress.

Although traces of the illness remained, Penny’s skin had significantly improved thanks to the dedicated care provided by the shelter staff.

But this was just the beginning of a series of joyful developments for Penny. Shortly after her recovery, Penny was transitioned to a foster home where a warm and loving family welcomed her.

“What a transformation! Our sweet Penny is thriving in her foster home,” The Animal Foundation celebrated in their Facebook post.

Penny’s foster dad, Jeramy, expressed how elated his family was to have her. In an interview with The Animal Foundation, Jeramy shared that he had seen her tragic story on the news and felt compelled to help.

Penny’s foster mom, Mary, echoed Jeramy’s sentiments, noting Penny’s presence brought immense happiness to their household. She jubilantly reported how their two children absolutely adored Penny and developed a unique bond with her.

As her foster family’s love blossomed, Penny’s physical and emotional wounds began to heal. She was finally experiencing the life she had always deserved.

Happy Ending

Despite all the wonderful changes in Penny’s life over this brief time, her happiness had yet to reach its zenith. Given the joy she brought to her new family, a happy conclusion was undoubtedly on the horizon.

“She spends her days playing with the foster family’s kids, who are absolutely smitten with her! She’s a cuddle bug, loves snoozing next to the family’s slippers, and enjoys lounging in the sun. At times, she even wears socks, improving each day!” The Animal Foundation shared in their Facebook post.

This prompted Jeramy and Mary to take the only sensible step: one that would bring Penny and themselves immense joy. They made the decision to adopt her.

Thus, with the support of compassionate individuals, Penny underwent a remarkable transformation from a distressed, unhealthy dog to the happiest pup imaginable. In the end, all those who played a role in her journey expressed their gratitude to the kind-hearted individuals behind this incredible story.

“Thanks to everyone who generously contributed to her care, Penny is experiencing the vital second chance she deserves, and she truly struck gold with her new family,” concluded The Animal Foundation in their latest post about Penny.
