Jace, a compassionate man, was cycling to a basketball game when he encountered a truly distressing scene by the roadside.
A small dog, in terrible shape and covered with visible wounds, was in desperate need of help.
Although Jace couldn’t take her in right away, he couldn’t abandon her. He quickly made a few calls to ensure she would be rescued.
Thanks to his selfless actions, this dog’s life would change for the better forever.
Rescuing The Sweet Little Girl
Jace contacted his mother, who enlisted the help of the Mission Pawsible animal rescue team to assist in saving this adorable dog.
The little girl was resting in a corner, but as soon as the strangers approached, she expressed her fear and reluctance.
Feeling extremely frightened of humans, she was initially uncooperative, but the rescuers were determined to help her, so they devised a rescue plan.
They began by asking around to find out if she had an owner or where she came from. To their shock, they discovered she had an owner, despite her dire state.
“She was once a beautiful western breed puppy, but unfortunately, she was not provided with the necessary care, resulting in a coat full of dreadlocks, ticks, and fleas, and an evident fear of most humans. This serves as a reminder of the importance of educating people on responsible pet ownership – both physically and emotionally,” Mission Pawsible stated on their Facebook post.
It seemed like she had never experienced a bath or proper care in her life.
The rescuers attempted to attract her using food in a cage, but she proved to be too clever for that trap.
Just thirty minutes into their effort, the ‘owner’ showed up on a scooter and managed to attach a leash to her.
“The ‘owner’ consented to let us take her. The sorrow and confusion in Lexie’s eyes were heartbreaking. Taking a pet away from their owner is indeed a difficult task. Even though she’d been neglected, she still had affection for her owner,” the rescue team reflected.
While she was understandably distraught, she eventually calmed down, perhaps sensing that help was finally on the way.
The Start Of A New And Beautiful Life
She was taken to a vet clinic where she received a much-needed haircut and tasty food.
Once her fur was shaved, they checked her cuts and injuries thoroughly, revealing that thankfully, they were not extensive.
Although still sad and heartbroken, the clinic’s staff reassured her that she could overcome her sorrow and learn to trust again.
What she needed now was the right foster or forever home that would allow her, now named Lexie, to relax and gradually rebuild her trust.
Luckily, Lexie quickly found a new home, and her new mom turned out to be the perfect match for her.
Michellina Suminto, her new mom, fell in love with her instantly. She had been looking for another puppy to adopt to keep her other dog company.
As Lexie’s coat grew back, she transformed into an adorably fluffy bundle of joy, becoming the cutest dog imaginable.
Within just a few days, she and her adoptive brother, Edison, became best friends.
“I am incredibly proud of how brave she has become,” Michellina shared with The Dodo.
Lexie has overcome her fears of humans, all due to the kindness of one individual who demonstrated what love truly means.
