Rescued Pup Misjudged as ‘Mean’ Because of His Age Feels Heartbroken After Being Overlooked at Arizona Shelter

Date:

What makes a dog seem mean is beyond my comprehension. Yet, whenever people glanced at Sully, a 5-month-old Pittie, they perceived a “mean, aggressive bully,” causing them to steer clear of him. All they needed was just five minutes with him to see the truth!

Despite this, Sully spent day after day confined in a small cage, drifting off to sleep each night with the hope that someone would recognize his true adorableness. Then, one day, a special person came along and transformed his whole life!

He Struggled At The Shelter For Months

Julia Correll, from Desert Dog Project, a rescue organization dedicated to helping shelter dogs in need of medical assistance and foster homes, immediately fell for Sully’s charm. While volunteering at Maricopa County Animal Care & Control in Arizona, she was heartbroken by Sully’s sad demeanor. Formerly known as Gindo, he was living in a small kennel with severe arthritis, preventing him from walking correctly. After being picked up as a stray with his puppies and a female dog, the rest found loving homes, leaving Sully behind, appearing much older due to his poor living conditions.

“Gindo has been waiting over 3 months at the shelter… He has severe arthritis and struggles to walk even a few feet. He was found as a stray and is estimated to be about 5 but he appears much older. He is skinny and covered in sores and scabs,” Julia wrote in a Facebook post.

Julia couldn’t comprehend why Sully was perceived as intimidating. He was the most affectionate and friendly Pittie she had ever encountered, yet he remained homeless. “He is the most gentle, affectionate, loving dog. His favorite pastime is sitting in your lap and rolling over for belly rubs. He’s unbothered by anyone or anything. He is truly such a lover,” she remarked.

Determined to provide Sully with a second chance at life, Julia began taking him out on daily outings. They would spend whole days in the park, lounging on a blanket and enjoying the world around them. Before long, they formed a beautiful bond, and Sully had finally found his rescuer – Julia!

The Easiest Dog His Momma Ever Had

Even though his journey began as a foster trial, it took Sully mere months to win over his new momma and secure a forever home. He proved to be the easiest foster dog she had ever taken in. Although it took him six months to adjust to house life, he knew exactly how to win her heart. “He is seriously the easiest foster dog I have ever had,” Julia shared on Instagram.

Sully received his very own stroller, which he adored. This allowed him to join his human on city walks, trips, and adventures, experiencing everything he had longed for. Sully had always been a social dog; he simply needed someone to recognize that. Julia understood right away!

Julia also provided him with custom braces for his worn-down elbows, in addition to the joint injections, acupuncture, and physical therapy he was already receiving. She did everything possible to ensure Sully could live like a regular dog, and it’s safe to say that she achieved that. Moreover, she surprised him with the greatest gift – a dog sibling!

When Julia adopted another dog, Effie, Sully was overjoyed. He took on a parental role, caring for Effie and being gentle and loving. After all his hardships, Sully found a family again, but this time, he would never have to part from them. Together, they would embark on countless exciting adventures and enjoy his new life in Arizona with the best family ever!
