A dog named Mrs. Greg was discovered alone on the streets by an animal control officer, who promptly rescued her and took her to a local shelter.
Mrs. Greg was in such critical condition that the shelter could not provide the proper care she required. Fortunately, she was later transferred to Austin Pets Alive!—a facility equipped to meet her needs.
“Mrs. Greg was in terrible shape. She was diagnosed with parvovirus and had severe sarcoptic mange,” explained Luis Sanchez, the director of public relations and communications at Austin Pets Alive!, to The Dodo.
The prognosis for pups diagnosed with parvo is usually bleak. However, Mrs. Greg defied the odds and fought back.
However, Mrs. Greg took a little longer to recover from her mange, resulting in a delay in her fur regrowth.
The staff were concerned that her appearance might hinder her chances of adoption, but one compassionate person recognized her inner beauty and proved everyone wrong.
Mrs. Greg, who was renamed Winnie, found her forever home with Olivia, a remarkable woman dedicated to helping her new pup heal and thrive.
A Fresh Start for Winnie
Despite undergoing some ongoing health challenges, Winnie never lost her spirit.
“I knew she battled through parvo and mange in the shelter, and even after her adoption, it took a while for her to fully recover. She kept facing frequent illnesses and stomach troubles, but she remained a joyful and resilient puppy throughout,” Olivia shared with The Dodo.
Olivia was uncertain if Winnie’s fur would ever return to its full glory, yet it didn’t matter to her—she adored her brave girl just the same.
Then, to everyone’s surprise, Winnie blossomed and grew the most beautiful fur coat!
“I can’t believe how much fur she has now! It feels like it just keeps growing!” exclaimed Olivia.
Winnie has entirely let go of her painful history and embraced her new life complete with her gorgeous new fur.
