Many dogs do not receive a fair start in life. Abandoned and alone, these loyal companions are left to navigate an uncertain world, struggling for survival in harsh environments.
Keanu experienced a similar fate when he was heartlessly abandoned in the woods. Alone, without food or water, he confronted the harsh elements of winter.
He had sunk to his lowest point, completely hopeless, until two compassionate individuals discovered him and transformed his life forever!
Skin And Bones
When Ne La and Adrian discovered Keanu, he was in desperate circumstances. He was on the brink of giving up, with little chance of survival at that moment.
Keanu was lying still on the forest floor and showed no response whatsoever to his rescuers. He lacked the strength to get up or even react to them.
The pair reached out to 1 Dog At A Time Rescue, who promptly got Keanu to their veterinarian, Denisa.
“It took several hours before he began to respond,” Jayne, the rescue’s co-founder, explained to We Love Animals. “At first, he could barely lift his head.”
On the way to the clinic, Keanu lay in the car, demonstrating his trust in humanity. He had no other option since his energy was entirely depleted.
Upon arriving at the clinic, they immediately placed Keanu on an IV drip. Several hours later, he was responsive for the first time. He slowly opened his eyes and began to lick his rescuers’ hands, expressing his gratitude in his own special way: “Thank you!”
The Gentlest Soul
This gentle and caring demeanor stole the hearts of everyone at the rescue!
“Every person who met him fell in love. He was so gentle, very, very gentle,” Jayne shared.
During his first week, Keanu remained completely still. His food and water were close by, and he continued to eat and drink until, a few days later, he began to show signs of recovery!
He managed to rise to his feet and take a few tentative steps. Witnessing Keanu’s first movements was an emotional and uplifting experience. Moreover, once he stepped outside, his recovery accelerated significantly.
In just a few weeks, Keanu made remarkable progress. He began to walk for longer stretches outside and even began to make friends. With his pal, Elsa, he rediscovered the joy of playtime and embraced his inner dog once again.
However, his all-time favorite pastime remains simply resting underneath a tree, enjoying the serenity.
“He’s such a gentle soul and gets along well with all our other dogs. He truly has his own personality and is happiest when lounging outside under a tree,” the rescue shared on Facebook.
Keanu’s spirit was rejuvenated. Everyone could see the joy and gratitude in his eyes for the second chance he had been given. Now, he was finally ready to show the love he received during his recovery!
“He’s one of those exceptional dogs that comes around once in a while. He truly is a very special dog,” Jayne remarked.
Eventually, he found a loving family and a caring home.
Now, he can truly exhibit his wonderful personality and enjoy countless adventures, free from worries. After everything he has endured, he completely deserves this happiness!
