Upon arriving at a sand pit in Crosby, Texas, truck drivers were heartbroken to discover a lovely dog who had been left behind. As they witnessed her gazing longingly into the distance, they assumed she was waiting for her owners, unaware that she had been abandoned.
Searching For A Foster Family
Megan, whose family owns the sand pit, was contacted by the drivers for assistance with the little pup. Unfortunately, abandonment of animals at that location was common, which is how Megan became involved in rescuing them. She made it a point to send food for the dog daily, while the drivers ensured that Dutchie received her meals. They showed her kindness and tenderness, hoping to earn her trust.
“We always send our dump truck drivers and operators with bags of dog food to feed the dogs that are down there, and I always ask them to take pictures and video,” Megan stated. After obtaining footage of Dutchie, she shared it on her Facebook page, actively seeking a foster home for the pooch. She continually checked on the pup and received daily updates from the truck drivers, who patiently talked to Dutchie, attempting to gain her trust. The frightened dog often sought refuge on a pile of tires adjacent to the sand pit.
Megan Is Thrilled To Give Dutchie Happy News
Fortunately, Lola’s Lucky Day, an organization dedicated to rescuing homeless dogs in Houston and Dallas, stepped in and found a foster family for Dutchie. Megan was overjoyed upon hearing the news. Without delay, she left her job and rushed to the sand pit to rescue Dutchie.
“It was a relief. It was like… party. Like, I’m so glad. Whenever I know that there is a solution I never want to leave them down any second longer,” Megan expressed. Upon her arrival at the sand pit, she searched for the pup, but Dutchie’s dark fur blended seamlessly with the black tires she had been hiding in. To Megan’s delight, the most adorable little head appeared, peeking out in curiosity.
“And then she came out of the tires and she was excited to see me. She was looking for food but she was excited and friendly. She came straight up to me,” Megan recounted.
Megan managed to place a leash around Dutchie’s neck. The little pup radiated cuteness, and as Megan affectionately petted her, Dutchie’s hopeful eyes looked up in anticipation. She rolled over, inviting Megan for a belly rub.
Captivated by Dutchie’s charm, Megan brought the pup home for the night, where she experienced the comfort of a real home for the first time. “When I put her in the backyard to run around, it was like she was experiencing grass for the first time. She knew it was different; it was a home-like feeling compared to fending for herself,” Megan explained.
Enjoying Her Time At The Foster Home
The following day, Megan transported Dutchie to her new foster parents, Kaitlin and Lauren. Initially, Dutchie displayed some distrust, uncertain about her new environment, despite her yearning for love and affection. During a vet visit, the doctors diagnosed her with heartworm and noted an injured ankle along with hip issues. However, with the right medication, she began to improve steadily.
With tender care, Dutchie’s foster parents worked patiently with her, showering her with affection. Over time, she began to relax and eventually made herself at home, enjoying cuddles with Kaitlin and Lauren. Dutchie conquered her fears and blossomed into a confident, joyful pup, now sporting a radiant smile. Ready for a new chapter, she looked forward to leaving her past behind.
