Living on the streets in search of food is challenging for any dog, but it’s even more difficult for mother dogs. Nixi, a courageous mother dog, roamed the streets of Houston, striving to keep her puppy safe. Her love for her child motivated her even in the toughest moments.
One day, while scouring for food with her puppy, Nixi encountered a warehouse and spotted some workers. Unsure whether they would help or chase her away, she hesitated. Luckily, one of the workers noticed her plight and left food for her and her pup. Andrea, a compassionate woman working at the warehouse, felt compelled to assist the dogs, especially given the freezing weather. However, Nixi remained distant, uncertain of the workers’ intentions.
Searching For Help
Determined to help, Andrea and a co-worker created a food trail leading to the warehouse, leaving food and blankets for Nixi and her puppy. Sadly, the frightened dogs dashed away.
When Andrea returned the next morning, she was relieved to find Nixi and her puppy snuggled on the blankets. Happy they found refuge, she wrapped them in warmth and rushed them to several shelters that unfortunately couldn’t accommodate them.
Undeterred, Andrea took Nixi to another shelter, which was closed. Just as she was about to leave, she encountered a young couple in the parking lot interested in adopting a puppy.
Instantly falling in love with Nixi’s puppy, they decided to take him home, while Andrea brought Nixi to her own house, sharing her story on social media in hopes of finding a forever home for the loving mother dog.
The Happy Ending She Always Hoped For
Once at Andrea’s home, Nixi felt a wave of relief, sensing she could trust her. Eager for love, she asked her new hero for affection. Nixi quickly captured Andrea’s heart, leading her to decide to offer her a forever home. Nixi’s joy was heartwarming; she constantly sought closeness, wanting to hold Andrea’s hand.
“She does this thing where she sits back on her hind legs and she picks up her paws to try and she’ll place them on my knee, or she’ll pick up her paw and she’ll place it on my hand,” Andrea shared with GeoBeats Animals.
Nixi’s new mom took her to the vet, where she was diagnosed with multiple health issues, hinting that she had endured life on the streets for months. In addition to being malnourished, Nixi was heartworm-positive, infested with fleas, and harbored stomach worms. After starting treatment, she began her recovery journey at home.
Initially fearful of humans, Nixi’s confidence gradually grew, thanks to the loving attention of her new family. Now, she thrives, embracing her new life. She has a lot of love to share with everyone.
Nixi reunited with her puppy and met his new family, feeling a sense of peace knowing he was well cared for. Both mother and puppy now have loving homes where they are cherished.
