No one has a better day than the dog being adopted; not even the person adopting them.
Every pup’s dream is to find out that a human loves them so much that they want to make them a part of their life forever.
So, when Taro, a senior dog, learned he was leaving the shelter for his new forever home, he was determined to be the best furry companion ever.
A Fresh Start
Marusha and her family have always believed in the joy of having a furry friend around. However, following the passing of their last dog, Marusha’s mother found it hard to adopt again due to the heartbreak.
“We had three family dogs before, but after the heartbreaking loss of our last dog, my mom decided to stop adopting dogs because she couldn’t endure the pain again. I felt a void without one, which led me to adopt my first dog in January,” Marusha shared with Newsweek.
Choosing to adopt a dog that was less likely to find a home, Marusha met an 11-year-old pup through a rescue organization working to save dogs from euthanasia.
Naming him Taro, which translates to ‘older brother’ or ‘first child’ in Japanese, Marusha and her new furry friend began their journey together.
Taking It Slow.
Sadly, Taro had suffered severe abuse from his previous owner, causing him to be unsure about his new family.
“On the day I finally picked Taro up, he was really frightened. However, I let him take his time to sniff me out before signing the adoption papers, and then we headed home together,” she shared.
He took some time to adjust to his loving environment, yet he was ready to become the best companion!
On his very first night with his new mom, Taro snuggled up next to her all night, staying close by her side except when she went upstairs…
He struggled a bit with the stairs.
He also faced challenges during car rides, but after a little outing with his mom, he was hooked!
However, he must be next to her the whole trip.
“I could see relief in him; he became super cuddly, and he chose me as his owner right away. Since then, he has become very attached, always following me, even into the bathroom when I shower,” she remarked.
Unfortunately, remnants of Taro’s past still linger. Because he had been confined to a cage and didn’t get to walk much, he developed some joint issues. Thankfully, Marusha’s aunt is a vet, ensuring he receives the necessary treatments to feel his best.
Thanks to his new loving family, Taro is truly relishing the life he always deserved. His gratitude shines brightly!
“He loves to walk, cuddle, and play. While he remains wary of men, he is remarkably loyal and affectionate towards me and my family. My mom always says that it seems like he’s smiling,” Marusha concluded.
