Where The Love Is, Inc. Animal Rescue, located in Hamden, Connecticut, assists a multitude of rescue dogs in dire need of support.
They dedicate their care to finding these pooches affectionate homes. Over the past three years, many lovely dogs have come to the shelter and soon found their forever families.
All of them… except for Bones.
Even the dogs that showed up at the shelter after Bones found their own forever homes… this poor boy remained.
However, the amazing staff at the shelter were unwavering in their resolve to help Bones find the loving home he truly deserved, no matter how long it might take.
Fortunately, Bones’ wish eventually came true!
Hi, I’m Bones
Bones was discovered roaming the streets of Texas, hoping for a savior.
He earned his name ‘Bones’ because, upon rescue, he seemed so malnourished that onlookers commented he was merely “skin and bones.”
It took a while for Bones to recover and gain some weight, but eventually, when he was fit enough to travel, he made his way to Where The Love Is Rescue, in Hamden, Connecticut.
The shelter was optimistic about finding him a safe and loving forever home.
From the moment he arrived at the shelter, everyone recognized that he was something special.
However, the search for Bones’ ideal forever family turned out to be much more challenging than the shelter had anticipated.
Bones was an incredibly affectionate, playful, and gentle dog, but being a large male Pitbull mix made it difficult for him to find someone willing to take a chance on him.
Days, months, and even years ticked by, while Bones continued his search at the rescue for a family to call his own.
Despite receiving plenty of love, the shelter recognized that a life within their walls could never compare to a nurturing home environment. They did everything within their means to help make his dream a reality.
This is what the shelter shared about Bones on their social media:
“He is loved by our volunteers, wonderful with people, and friendly towards everyone. All he longs for is to be by your side, ready to offer (and receive big kisses). Bones adores toys and is never seen without his robust black rubber bone.”
Even after a generous donor covered his adoption fee, the rescue struggled to find the ideal family for Bones.
Introducing My Forever Family
The shelter truly put in every effort they could to find Bones his forever home.
They took him on various day trips to help him socialize, visited stores for toy shopping, and included him in every adoption event they hosted.
Additionally, they created numerous videos highlighting Bones’ awesome personality and teamed up with local creators to amplify awareness.
They never wavered in their pursuit, and their dedication paid off in the end.
Fast forward to September 2023, Bones finally discovered his forever home.
The shelter triumphantly shared the wonderful news on Facebook:
“Bones is home! After nearly three years of waiting for his forever family, Bones was adopted by Adell and his son earlier this month. While Bones will be missed by everyone at the shelter who had the joy of knowing him, we are all thrilled and deeply grateful for Adell’s love and commitment to our boy.”
All he ever desired was a loving home!
After almost three years of anticipation, his dream finally came to fruition.
At last, Bones is thriving and reveling in his new home.
When the time came to bid farewell to the remarkable volunteers, who had been his family for so long, Bones stood at the window grinning widely, as if to say “thank you for never giving up on me!”
Good things truly come to those who wait, and Bones exemplifies this perfectly.
