Pups from Washington Found Shelter in a Small Pipe, and Then Their Lives Transformed One Day

Date:

Every dog has the right to a loving home, but sadly, some heartless individuals abandon their pups, showing no compassion. This was the case for three puppies left in a remote area of Kennewick, Washington, who felt utterly betrayed. Seeking refuge from the heat, they found solace in a nearby metal pipe, huddled together and hoping for rescue.

Fortunately, a compassionate man named Jim Tietsort was driving by when he noticed the three abandoned pups. Although he attempted to catch them, the frightened dogs retreated into the pipe. Unable to rescue them, Tietsort took to Facebook, posting a heartfelt plea for assistance. This caught the attention of local resident Nikki Surgeon, who felt compelled to help, although she initially failed to find them.

Surgeon was horrified that anyone could abandon dogs on a lonely road, leaving them vulnerable to extreme heat and hunger. “For somebody to dump dogs where they have nowhere to go and there’s no shelter — and it was like 98 degrees [Fahrenheit] out — it’s terrible,” she remarked to The Dodo. Determined to save the pups, she returned to the area the following day, where she finally encountered the three dogs.

The pups, who were later named Canyon, Pebble, and Sahara, looked at Surgeon with distrust. She fed them and spoke softly, but they were too fearful to come close. To build trust, Surgeon and another kind-hearted woman, Sandy Orton, began visiting the dogs three times daily, offering food and water. Gradually, the pups’ demeanor softened, and they started to approach their rescuers.

After two days of tender care and consistent visits, Surgeon, Orton, and members of the community successfully captured Canyon and Sahara. However, Pebble, the brindle female, remained terrified. The rescuers gave her some extra time and continued to show up daily. Their patience paid off on the fifth day when Pebble finally allowed them to place a leash around her neck. The joy of the rescuers was overwhelming as they reassured her of her newfound safety.

As Pebble felt the gentle touch of her rescuers, her fear dissipated, and her affectionate nature began to shine through. All three dogs were taken to a veterinary hospital for a check-up, where they were relieved to ascertain their good health.

Surgeon decided to foster all three pups, showering them with love and attention. Despite their traumatic past, they began to display their playful, affectionate nature. They received care from Mikey’s Chance Canine Rescue in West Richland, Washington, where efforts are underway to find them a forever home.

It is my hope that these beloved pups will soon find their forever homes, knowing that they will never be abandoned again. Thank you to all the incredible individuals who gave these pups a second chance at life, filling their hearts with hope for a brighter future.
