Pregnant Dog and Her Puppy Rescued from Cramped Boxes Before Major Storm in California

Date:

Animal cruelty has surged in recent years, leaving many four-legged companions to fend for themselves. Due to neglectful owners, countless dogs find themselves living on the streets, enduring harsh weather conditions without shelter or food. One such heartbreaking incident took place in Southern California, where a pregnant dog and her puppy were abandoned, left alone to face an impending storm.

They Only Had Each Other

A group of compassionate neighbors saw the two dogs wandering the streets and quickly decided to help. Instead of leaving them vulnerable, they built a temporary shelter from cardboard boxes, an old chair, and cozy blankets to ensure the dogs felt safe, as highlighted by Suzette Hall in a Facebook post: “The kind neighbors made boxes for beds and a chair with blankets and beds. Sweet little babies each had their little boxes. And they each slept in their own.” However, they understood this solution was merely a stopgap.

Understanding the urgency posed by the approaching storm and the pregnant condition of the mother dog, the neighbors alerted Suzette Hall, founder of Logan’s Legacy in Irvine, California, and her colleague, Mary, regarding the dogs’ dire situation. Hall expressed her heartbreak upon arrival, witnessing the dogs in their makeshift beds, a painful reminder of their abandonment. Fortunately, the rescue team was quick to respond!

“Yesterday these two babies were dumped with nothing but each other. They would go up and down the street looking for the ones they once trusted. The neighbors couldn’t believe it,” Hall reflected.

Upon arriving, Hall and Mary managed to rescue the puppy first, as the mother was too frightened to approach. They set up a humane trap filled with enticing food nearby, and within moments, they secured the mother as well. “I reunited them together in the trap and we drove away from their little box beds,” Suzette shared.

Finally Safe

Both dogs were then transported safely to a veterinary clinic for examination and subsequent care. After receiving a clean bill of health, the mother and her puppy are now ready for a foster or forever home. Thanks to Suzette, Mary, and the dedicated rescue team, the pups were saved just in time, and they are poised to begin a new chapter in their lives, hopefully leading to a loving, cozy life with a family that will never abandon them.
