When dogs find themselves in vulnerable situations, they depend on human kindness and support.
A dog named Joy Bird needed a helping hand more than ever. After being struck by a vehicle, she was helplessly lying on the roadside in St. Louis, Missouri.
Her eyes, filled with fear, gazed at the cars passing by, as she desperately hoped for someone to notice her.
Despite being overlooked by everyone, the sorrowful pup held onto the hope that compassionate humans would come to her rescue.
Joy Bird’s Rescue
When local police officers noticed the pup curled up at the roadside, they immediately stopped their vehicle.
As soon as the dog, later known as Joy Bird, saw them rushing towards her, she sighed in relief. The help she had been praying for had finally arrived.
To shield Joy Bird from oncoming traffic, the officers formed a protective barrier.
After contacting Stray Rescue of St. Louis, the caring individuals sat with the dog, comforting her and assuring her that everything would be okay.
Shortly thereafter, the rescue team arrived. Their hearts sank at the sight of the sweet, pleading eyes looking back at them.
The team discovered that Joy Bird had multiple cuts on her body and was struggling to move her back legs.
The kind-hearted rescuers gently lifted the dog from the street and carried her to their vehicle. They transported her to a veterinary clinic, where she received immediate medical care.
To their relief, the veterinary staff found that Joy Bird’s injuries were not critical. She had a broken hip, but she was expected to heal completely.
“It is going to take her time to heal with lots of crate rest, but she should be able to make a full recovery in time,” SRSL shared on Facebook.
The medical team provided comfort to Joy Bird, ensuring she felt secure during her stay.
They scheduled her hip surgery for the following day.
At Last, Safe
After a restful night, the pup felt much more at ease.
Her expression shifted from fear to relief as she realized she was in caring hands.
Fortunately, Joy Bird’s surgery went well, and she began her recovery journey.
Since she had trouble using her back legs for a while, her new human friends placed her in a stroller for outdoor strolls.
Joy Bird delighted in her time outside, her face lighting up with joy. The charming pup beamed as she basked in the sunlight.
“She enjoys going out in her stroller and soaking up the sun. [She’s] such a sweet girl,” noted the rescue in a Facebook post.
Thanks to the dedicated care from her rescue team, Joy Bird grew stronger. Several weeks after her surgery, she was ready to transition into foster care.
Her new foster family welcomed her with open arms, showering her with love and affection.
While Joy Bird relishes the affection from her foster family, she dreams of finding her forever home where she can show everlasting love.
She eagerly awaits the day she can embrace her humans tightly and share her boundless affection with them.
