Sadly, it is all too common to see dogs abandoned on the streets. These loyal companions rely heavily on humans and often struggle to navigate tough situations alone.
This is particularly true for young puppies who, from the very start of their lives, must fight for their survival in harsh environments. At times, their circumstances can be dire, leaving them to simply wish for kind-hearted individuals to come to their rescue.
One fateful day, a group of puppies found themselves in just such a predicament, but fortunately, they soon encountered their rescuers.
Heat-Exposed Fur Babies
As reported by PEOPLE, on July 14, 2024, officers from The Garden City Police Department discovered 13 puppies abandoned by the roadside near 9th and Maple Streets around 9:30 a.m.
That same day, they shared details of the rescue on their official Facebook page in hopes that someone would identify the adorable pups.
“PUPPY LOVE: Officers found this sweet litter of puppies near 9th and Maple Streets (THIRTEEN of them),” they noted. “We made them junior ‘paw-tners’ and showered them with love and attention before taking them to the animal shelter.”
It was crucial that these puppies were found and rescued promptly, as conditions were extremely hot. According to AccuWeather, the temperature soared to 97 degrees that day.
Fortunately, thanks to the swift actions of these dedicated officers, the puppies were saved just in time.
“They were hot when we found them, but otherwise, they were incredibly sweet and seemed to be in good health,” the police department shared in an email to PEOPLE.
Caring for the Little Ones
In their statement, The Garden City Police Department mentioned that each puppy weighed between 6 and 8 pounds and expressed that they were providing them with extra care and affection before handing them over to the Finney County Humane Society in Garden City, Kansas.
During this time, the police officers also committed themselves to investigating the circumstances surrounding the abandonment of the puppies.
The Finney County Humane Society is fully supporting this effort as they are actively sharing photos and information about the puppies on their Facebook page.
With the assistance of caring individuals and professionals from both the police department and the rescue organization, it is certain that these little ones will eventually find their forever homes.
“Let’s hope they are reunited with their families soon!” the police department concluded in their post.
