Saint’s tale can certainly be seen as a miraculous narrative – an authentic miracle of love.
It is often overlooked that love is perhaps the most profound gift and driving force in existence. While Saint may not be able to articulate what brought him back to life, I am nearly certain it was love… a pure and unwavering love.
When this unfortunate little fellow was discovered in a homeless encampment in Hawaii, his chances of survival were deemed nonexistent, as he had lost all hope for his life.
The situation was decidedly grim, but isn’t that just the time for odds to be defied?
That’s when Heather came into Saint’s life, and the rest, as they say, is history…
A Life Worth Fighting For
Upon arriving at Heather’s care, Saint was in total despair. He was in a complete state of shutdown – not eating, not moving, and hardly engaging in any activity.
“He often couldn’t get up on his own. I had to lift him to take him outside for a bathroom break. He was infested with every parasite imaginable. This was a hospice scenario. He was dying,” Heather recounted to The Dodo.
She welcomed him into her home for some end-of-life comfort.
“I wanted him to know I was there and encourage him to fight. He showed me he wanted to live,” she shared.
Saint had never known love and tenderness throughout his life.
Sadly, this reality was foreign to him, but thankfully Heather and her loved ones were there to remind him that life is so much more than just pain.
After a couple of weeks in their care, he started to demonstrate small signs of recovery, such as standing on his own and wandering into the living room.
This marked a significant milestone for him, as he finally began to integrate with the rest of the family.
“Another week passed, and he was climbing onto the couch by himself. He was really starting to enjoy the company of a family, engaging with other dogs for the first time, and being inside a house for the first time,” Heather remarked.
From Zero to Hero
Although he had made great strides over the weeks, Saint’s appetite remained minimal. Heather struggled to get him to eat enough.
Then, she discovered he had a penchant for rotisserie chicken, which was a relief.
“If that’s what he desired, then that’s what he received,” Heather commented.
At that moment, Heather felt assured he would pull through. She began to notice he was becoming more engaged with life and eager to connect with the world.
“He was focused on the present, no longer looking back. Then he started to play. He sought affection and began to give it back,” Heather expressed joyfully.
Saint was finally living the fulfilling life he had always deserved. He was no longer just surviving – he started to thrive!
Saint is now regularly seen joyfully running along the beaches of Hawaii, strolling two-and-a-half miles daily, and wholeheartedly embracing life.
All of this stems from the kindness of one woman who decided to show him love when no one else would.
Saint truly embodies the spirit of a saint, brimming with goodness, and he is incredibly fortunate to have a family that cares for him so deeply.
