“I saw that there were dog prints that went up to my door like he was looking in for help,” said Christina.

Upon reaching her basement, she discovered a poor animal that looked cold and was shivering. Despite its appearance making it hard to identify, Christina knew she needed to help. She lured the animal into her home, providing it with food and water.

Mystery Animal

The animal seemed to be suffering from mange, making it difficult to ascertain what type it was. “I wasn’t completely sure, but he never showed signs of aggression. I just saw an animal in need and wanted to help,” Christina expressed.

Solving The Mystery

Christina decided to post about the mystery animal on her local message board, and soon received a response from a volunteer at Tj’s Rescue Hideaway in Pennsylvania. The welfare group was uncertain about the animal’s identity, but they understood it needed help.

“Maria [the group’s organizer] and her team came out and were able to catch him without harming him at all. [They] transported him to Wildlife Works-Mount Pleasant for treatment and testing to confirm what he is,” Christina said.

The animal was suffering from severe mange and was extremely malnourished. It was also wary and scared of the shelter staff, requiring gentle handling during medical treatment.

Unexpectedly, after only a few days at the facility, the mystery animal managed to escape and was never seen again. However, the awaited test results eventually confirmed the animal’s identity.

It turns out that the frightened creature was indeed a coyote, returned to the wilderness where it belongs. Christina felt no fear, understanding she acted rightly. “No matter the results of the test, I wouldn’t change anything I did to help him,” she concluded.
