Introducing Cecil – the seven-year-old Goldendoodle from Pittsburgh who unexpectedly rose to global fame.
Ever curious about the ingredients for overnight stardom? Just ask Cecil; he holds all the keys.
Cecil has been a well-mannered pup his whole life, causing minimal disruptions – until the day he consumed $4,000 in cash!
Yes, you heard that right.
Here’s how the extraordinary event unfolded.
Cecil Is A Good Boy

Cecil’s owners – Clayton and Carrie Law – have described him as a well-mannered companion, bringing happiness into their lives since he was a little puppy.
It turns out that Cecil has a taste for the finer things in life, which was somewhat of a revelation to his family.
The Laws decided to install a new fence at their home in Pittsburgh and withdrew $4,000 from their bank to pay for the project.
In a moment of negligence, they left a sealed envelope filled with cash on their kitchen counter.
However, Cecil had other plans and got to it before they had a chance to put it away.
Thirty minutes later, when Clayton walked into the room, he was met with utter chaos. The kitchen floor was littered with tiny shreds of cash.

Stunned, Clayton immediately called out to Carrie, informing her that Cecil had swallowed the cash.
“I rushed in, thinking I had misheard, but the sight left no room for doubt,” Carrie recounted to The Washington Post. “I thought I was having a heart attack. Cecil had really done it.”
Interestingly, Cecil never seemed particularly food-driven, but he clearly has a knack for cash.
The immediate reaction of the couple was to reach out to their vet, ensuring Cecil’s health was safeguarded after his unexpected cash banquet.
Thankfully, being a large dog, the vet reassured them that Cecil would be fine as long as he continued with his normal routine of eating, drinking, and bathroom breaks.
‘Money Laundering’ At Its Finest

With Cecil’s health in check, the couple turned their attention to salvaging the cash.
They contacted their bank, and the manager informed them that if they could reassemble the bills with more than 50% of the pieces and provide the complete serial number from both sides, they would facilitate a replacement.
The only way to recover the money pieces was rather unpleasant.
For the next couple of days, they had to sift through Cecil’s vomit and stool to retrieve as many cash pieces as possible.

“I never thought I’d have to say I’ve laundered money, but it appears there’s a first for everything,” Carrie remarked.
Despite the shocking experience, Carrie and Clayton found a way to laugh about the incident.
The bank manager disclosed that such events occur more frequently than one might think. Money circulates through various hands, picking up odors that many dogs find irresistible.
After diligently cleaning the remaining money pieces and skillfully piecing them back together, the couple remarkably recovered almost $3,500.

“We’ve saved at least one of the torn bills to create a piece of art and frame it as a reminder of the whole experience. Not that we’ll ever forget,” Carrie shared.
Despite all that transpired, the family remains convinced that Cecil is a wonderful and cherished pet.

“You can’t truly fault an animal for their actions. They’re animals, not malicious creatures. We’ve been laughing about it pretty much since that day,” Carrie explained to Good Morning America.
Carrie shared her story on Instagram, providing a video that chronicled the entire event along with images documenting the experience. The post quickly gained traction, catapulting Cecil into the spotlight as a viral sensation.
