Meet Cecil, a seven-year-old Goldendoodle from Pittsburgh who unexpectedly shot to fame after a quirky incident. Ever wondered what it takes to become famous overnight? Just ask Cecil; he’s got all the secrets.
Cecil has been a well-behaved dog for most of his life—until he pulled off the shocking stunt of devouring $4,000 in cash! Yes, you read that right. Here’s how it all went down.
Cecil Is A Good Boy

According to Cecil’s owners, Clayton and Carrie Law, he has been a joy in their lives since he was a puppy. However, it recently came to light that Cecil has a taste for the finer things—which should be noted in context.
After deciding to install a new fence, the Laws withdrew $4,000 from their bank to cover the costs. Without thinking, they left a sealed envelope full of cash on their kitchen counter for a moment. But Cecil seized the opportunity.
Upon returning to the kitchen about half an hour later, Clayton was met with utter chaos: tiny shreds of money scattered everywhere. Stunned, he exclaimed to Carrie that their beloved dog had eaten the cash.

“I ran in, thinking I had to have heard him wrong, but when I saw the mess, there was no doubt,” Carrie told The Washington Post. “I thought I was going to have a heart attack. Cecil had really done it.”
The amusing twist? Cecil had never been particularly food motivated, but it appears he has a penchant for cash. Concerned for their dog’s health, the couple immediately reached out to their vet, ensuring Cecil was okay after his unexpected feast. Fortunately, the vet reassured them that as long as he was acting normal, such as eating, drinking, and using the bathroom, he would be fine.
‘Money Laundering’ At Its Finest

With Cecil’s health assured, the couple focused on salvaging the cash. Thankfully, the bank manager informed them that they could replace the notes if they could reconstruct more than 50% of them and provide the full serial numbers from both sides. This involved a less-than-pleasant task of sifting through Cecil’s vomit and waste to recover as many pieces as possible over the next few days.
“I never thought I’d be able to say I’ve laundered money, but there is apparently a first time for everything,” Carrie remarked.
Despite the ordeal, Carrie and Clayton managed to find humor in the situation. To their shock, the bank manager revealed that incidents like this happen quite frequently, as dogs are often attracted to scents of money that have exchanged hands multiple times.
After thoroughly cleaning and reassembling the bills, the couple astonishingly recovered nearly $3,500!

“We’ve kept at least one of the torn-up bills to create a piece of artwork and frame it to remember this entire situation. Not that we’d ever forget,”Carrie stated. Despite all the chaos, the family maintains that Cecil is an exceptional and beloved dog.

“You can’t really blame an animal for what they do. Like they’re an animal. They’re not doing it to be malicious or anything. So, we’ve really been laughing about it pretty much since that day,” Carrie told Good Morning America.
To share their amusing saga, Carrie posted a video on Instagram detailing the whole story alongside pictures documenting the entire process. The post quickly gained traction, making Cecil a social media sensation.
