One day, onlookers at a New York seaport were surprised to see a gray lump moving around. Upon closer inspection, they realized it was a neglected, injured seabird. Unsure of how to assist, they reached out to a professional for help.
Long Island animal rescuer Karenlynn Stracher received the distressing call and immediately drove to the location. Upon arrival, she spotted a gray feathered bird wandering through the parking lot and identified it as a gull. Noticing the bird’s condition, she recognized that it had a broken wing, a serious injury that could lead to dire consequences.
A Worrying Injury

Despite her concerns, when Karenlynn cautiously approached the injured bird, she noticed something miraculous: the gull was moving both of its wings, which is unusual with such an injury. Still, she knew she needed to safely capture the bird for a thorough examination to assess the true extent of the injury.

After several attempts, Karenlynn finally managed to ensnare the gull in her net. Inspecting it closely, her heart sank as she realized this young seagull was probably only born the previous spring. “Another baby,” Karenlynn lamented in a TikTok video, “I hate when this happens to the babies.”
Fortunately, his injury wasn’t as severe as initially feared, and most importantly, he was now in safe hands. After securing the gull, Karenlynn reached out to her friends at Sweetbriar Nature Center in Smithtown, New York. They agreed to provide continued care for the injured animal, giving hope that this young seagull would soon recover and return to the skies above the beautiful sea.
