Beyond issues like abandonment, overcrowding in shelters, neglect, and various other concerns in the canine realm, obesity is increasingly becoming a significant issue each year.
Numerous factors contribute to this, with the most apparent being unhealthy eating habits. However, a pet owner’s unfamiliarity with the right canine diet and potential underlying health issues can exacerbate the situation, leading to severe outcomes.
A particular Golden Retriever struggled with obesity and was nearly euthanized by her owner for being overweight. Luckily, compassionate individuals from Rovers Retreat Home in California intervened and rescued her.
This marked the start of her transformation.
She Was Broken Inside And Out

According to Rovers Retreat’s Instagram post, this eight-year-old Golden Retriever named Frannie was in terrible shape when she was rescued.
“She cannot walk. Barely stands. She is broken… physically and emotionally.” was their heartbreaking observation.
Immediately, Frannie was taken to a veterinary hospital for a thorough assessment of her health.
The veterinarians determined that Frannie weighed 125 pounds, which was over twice the ideal weight for her breed. Furthermore, they discovered she was grappling with hypothyroidism, a significant contributor to her excessive weight.

Unfortunately, her health issues didn’t end there; she also suffered from arthritis and spondylosis. Eventually, she was diagnosed with pneumonia, requiring several days of hospitalization.
This unfortunate girl spent her time at the clinic, where her previous diet was replaced with multiple antibiotics, fluids, pain relief medications, and vitamins.
Eventually, her condition improved, and she began eating and drinking normally. Most importantly, this courageous pup started displaying happiness around people, a stark contrast to her previous demeanor.

“Frannie LIT UP the moment she saw us today. She crawled right to us trying to get out of the kennel, so we took her outside to get some fresh air,” shared Rovers Retreat in their Instagram update. They continued, “She became so animated… demanding pets, giving kisses, and smiling nonstop.”
Next, the focus shifted to finding her a foster home, allowing her rehabilitation to progress effectively.
Fortunately, fate worked in their favor.
From Barely Walking To A TikTok Star
Annika, a veterinary student from the University of California, was deeply moved by Frannie’s journey, prompting her to offer a foster home for this loving dog.
While everyone was thrilled for Frannie’s new chapter, significant work remained as they needed to shed the extra weight.
However, the initial signs suggested that Frannie was on a promising path to recovery.

“She is embracing every bit of this experience, ready to engage in all the incredible activities we always believed she could. Here’s to the first of many wonderful days ahead of her. Little does she know, another delightful day awaits tomorrow!” they shared in their Instagram post.
As updates rolled in about her shedding pounds and improving both physically and emotionally, this Golden Retriever soon achieved a level of fame online.
Frannie’s journey caught the eye of many, which was beautifully documented in a TikTok video shared by her foster mom’s roommate.
This video showcases the daily challenges faced by Frannie and her resilience in overcoming them.
Unexpectedly for both her foster mom and her roommate, the video quickly gained traction. Frannie inspired many with her story and her spirit in the face of adversity.
As of now, Frannie is nearing her ideal weight and is determined to enjoy life to the fullest. We are optimistic and rooting for this courageous girl as she continues her journey.

Ultimately, Frannie embodies the idea that with love, determination, and resilience, one can rise from the lowest points to reach extraordinary heights.
So, best of luck to you, Frannie!
