Many individuals believe that dogs are so mischievous that leaving them alone often leads to chaos. Michael Brown, a dog owner from Santa Monica, California, shared this belief.
Until a few months ago, Michael had never owned a dog and lacked experience with them. However, he unexpectedly adopted a puppy, which set him on a path to gaining “canine experience.”
Still, after several months, he was unsure how his puppy would act if left to his own devices at home. This uncertainty led him to initiate a kind of experiment.
The outcome of that “experiment” left him quite astonished.
Truly A Good Boi

A few months after adopting a puppy named Cactus from Pups Without Borders, an animal rescue operation in Los Angeles, Michael was curious to see how he would act when left alone.
He was aware that Cactus was a well-behaved dog when he was present, but he had doubts about his conduct in his absence.
After initiating crate training in August, Michael decided to allow Cactus to stay in the open crate alone. Positioned right next to his bed, he anticipated discovering a chewed-up bed and scattered belongings upon his return.
However, when he reentered the room after a while, he was both surprised and happy. Despite having the freedom to leave the crate and explore, Cactus exhibited remarkable loyalty by staying put and waiting for his owner.
Michael recorded this heartwarming moment and shared the clip on his TikTok account @cactustherescue.
@cactustherescue Let’s see how long it takes him to hangout somewhere else while im gone!
Following this impressive event, Michael attempted several tactics to coax Cactus out of the crate. He first raised the volume on the TV in the adjacent room, but Cactus remained inside. Then, he purchased a cozy bed and placed it right outside the crate, yet Cactus stayed true to his home.
Finally, at a loss for ideas, Michael set up his laptop in front of the crate for Cactus to watch—his most substantial interaction with the outside world.
Despite these distractions, he stayed devoted to his crate, demonstrating that he is indeed a good dog and proving that dogs can behave well even when left unsupervised.
Praises From TikTok Users
The TikTok video Michael posted on August 8, 2024, showcasing Cactus’s exceptional behavior in the crate, garnered significant attention, leaving Michael astonished.
The video sparked a flurry of responses, and we’ve selected a few notable comments to share.

“He is a polite boy,” commented one user.
“It’s his safe place❤️,” another remarked.
Another user noted: “That’s good behavior! You want them to feel safe in their crate so that whenever they have to be in there, they don’t see it as a punishment and feel anxious.”
If what this user said holds true, which we believe it does, then Michael has undoubtedly done an impressive job. However, it’s not the end of the world if Cactus occasionally creates a bit of chaos.
After all, which dog has never caused at least a tiny mess? 🙂
