What started as an ordinary Sunday turned into a distressing situation for Brian Spies when he discovered that his cherished German Shepherd, Luna, was missing.
That morning, Luna, his ten-month-old puppy, was outside in Lotus, California, enjoying her time as she typically does.
When Spies realized Luna hadn’t returned home later that day, panic set in as he feared she might be injured and in dire need of assistance.
He quickly reached out to his friends, and they all began searching for her without delay.
The Search for Luna
They scoured the surrounding area, including the nearby woods. While they called out for Luna, their voices echoed without a reply.
Concerns flooded Spies’ mind as he couldn’t stop imagining his sweet Luna in distress. Aware of local wildlife threats, he dreaded what might have happened.
“We have bears, mountain lions, coyotes, foxes… We’ve got it all here. We were worried a mountain lion might have taken her,” he shared with KCRA 3.
As darkness fell, Spies and his companions had to conclude their search, but Luna was still missing.
A Sigh of Relief for Luna’s Owner
The following day, Luka Bogdanovich, a friend of Spies, was driving around the neighborhood. As he passed a wooded area close to Spies’ home, he spotted something furry perched 25 feet high in a slanted tree.
Upon closer inspection, he was shocked to find it was Luna looking down at him.
Bogdanovich wasted no time and called Spies, who rushed to the location to rescue his fur baby. Armed with an extension ladder, he climbed up the tree.
His friends supported him, holding the ladder and a sleeping bag as a precaution during the operation.
When Luna saw them, her tail began to wag. She felt the comfort of being found.
Reunited in Joy
Once Spies reached Luna atop the ladder, his heart soared as he embraced her tightly.
“I reached up, pulled her in for a bear hug, and carefully walked down the ladder without any hands,” Spies recounted.
Luna felt secure in her father’s embrace.
Upon returning to solid ground, the jubilant dog was ecstatic. Luna beamed with joy, soaking in all the love and cuddles from her dad.
Spies suspects that Luna had chased a squirrel up the tree and, after losing the chase, was unsure of how to make her way down.
Initially exhausted, Luna gradually returned to her playful self within a few days. She made a full recovery after the incident.
Spies marveled at Luna’s impressive climb and hoped she learned her lesson to avoid such escapades in the future.
