Overlooked Dog Who Lingered in Shelter for 2 Years Can’t Contain Her Joy on a ‘Special Outing’

Date:

Not every dog is fortunate enough to begin their life in a cozy home filled with a caring family. Unfortunately, the early days of some dogs can be quite distressing.

Take Cider, a Pit Bull who was forced into illegal dog fighting operations as a young pup. His rescue from such dire circumstances by the Pennsylvania SPCA, based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, showcases this harsh reality. When he was brought in, he was in a deplorable state.

Yet, with the support of kind-hearted individuals, he managed to heal from his physical wounds and soothe the scars on his spirit. However, over two years later, he is still patiently waiting for his ideal family.

Despite the challenges he has faced, there are moments when pure joy lights up his face.

Truly Special Moments

While the whole shelter community cared for Cider, Lindsey King, the Pennsylvania SPCA’s volunteer programs manager, felt a particularly close connection with him. She was pleased to see Cider still thriving, but noted that the conditions of shelter life were beginning to take a toll on him.

“Shelter life can be challenging for dogs, especially those who have stayed with us as long as Cider,” King shared with The Dodo. “Cider is still a generally happy dog, but we can see how the environment is affecting him.”

To uplift his spirits and bring back his grin, she took him to a nearby park where he could revel in a sunny day and frolic freely.

“To boost his mood and provide a break from kennel life, Cider – one of our longest-staying dog residents – had the best day ever offsite full of sniffing and cuddles.” the Pennsylvania SPCA noted in their Facebook post.

His happiness knew no bounds as he darted about the open field and occasionally leaped into the arms of his favorite person. King was overjoyed by these touching moments and couldn’t conceal her happiness.

Sadly, alongside the joy these experiences brought, she also felt a tinge of sorrow.

Dreaming Of A Happy Ending

After the wonderful day spent with her furry friend in the park, King was left with a bittersweet feeling as she watched Cider return to his kennel.

“We truly wish that all of his days could be like this,” the Pennsylvania SPCA expressed in their Facebook post. “They can be, with the right family.”

King pointed out that Cider had a difficult beginning and might need a bit of time to acclimate to a new environment. However, she also emphasized that his future family would receive immeasurable love in return – the kind that only a loyal companion can offer.

Although there have been no inquiries about adopting Cider yet, King and her compassionate colleagues believe that his perfect family is out there waiting for him.

“We’re certain that Cider’s humans are out there,” they concluded their post.

Until they arrive, Cider will continue to hold onto the hope of finding his happy ending.
