December is a magical time of the year, and Bonnie would agree if she could turn her barks into words! For this sweet street girl, the end of 2023 brought some turbulent moments. She was found roaming the streets of Oklahoma City with her beloved best friend, Clyde. The two were inseparable, spending every moment together and proving their loyalty, even at the shelter, until they ultimately had to part ways.
The Best Buds In The World
There’s something truly beautiful about how street dogs care for one another. When Bonnie and Clyde were rescued by the wonderful people at Stillwater Animal Welfare, they refused to be separated. Typically, rescue dogs grow independent and separate in shelters, but not Bonnie and Clyde. They amazed everyone with their unwavering loyalty and love, making it a joy for the team to have them together.
The history of Bonnie and Clyde remains unclear. These dogs were rescued from the streets, found in poor condition. Both suffered from heartworms and needed extensive medical care. Thankfully, they responded incredibly well to treatment, quickly emerging from their shells and becoming lovebugs at the shelter, showering the team with affection and kisses for their second chance at life.
Bonnie thrived during her first month at the facility. SAW posted on Facebook: “Bonnie came to us as a stray with her brother and was never claimed… She is about 45 pounds. Bonnie is heartworm positive. She is good with other dogs so far and loves food.” However, just as she began to enjoy her new surroundings, Clyde was adopted, leaving her heartbroken and alone in her kennel, anxiously waiting for her brother to return. “Bonnie is all alone since her brother got adopted, and she definitely misses having a sibling to cuddle with,” the team shared.
Happily Ever After
Adjusting to life without Clyde was hard for Bonnie. She missed him immensely and struggled to move on. Then, the magic of December arrived with an incredible woman named Brayden Routh who came to the shelter wanting to give Bonnie a forever home. The bond formed instantly; Bonnie was visibly excited to meet her new mom, as if she had been waiting for Brayden all along. They left together, marking a new beginning.
Bonnie has finally found a loving family and a cozy home that allows her to express her true self. She even gained a big sister in Tally, a Blue Heeler. Within days, Bonnie’s life transformed for the better; she blossomed into a vibrant girl ready for new adventures, with Tally by her side to guide her.
The initial days of Bonnie’s new life were bustling with activity. She met numerous new friends and quickly became the family’s sweetheart. Her true spirit, hidden for so long, emerged, bringing joy to her momma. “She’s in great hands! Tuckered out from a big day of making new friends,” her new mom wrote on Facebook. Once a heartbroken girl struggling to move forward, Bonnie is now blissfully happy!
