Ohio Rescuers Stunned to Discover the Reason Behind This Mama Dog’s Abandonment, Leading to a New Hope for Her Future

Date:

Dogs are beings that thrive on love from their favorite humans at every point in their lives. This need for affection becomes even more critical when a mother dog, like Violet, welcomes her puppies into the world, as human support is invaluable during this time. Unfortunately, many treat dogs as mere objects, overlooking their emotional needs. This was painfully evident to the employees of One of a Kind Pet Rescue in Akron, Ohio, who learned about Violet after she was heartlessly abandoned by her family, solely for having given birth to 12 puppies—more than they had anticipated.

A Terrific Mom

When Tanya Jonda, the executive director of One of a Kind Pet Rescue, learned about Violet and her puppies, her heart sank. “I was contacted by a woman in Columbus who is a friend of my daughter,” she recounted to The Dodo. “She took the mama and puppies in after she saw the post on Facebook by someone who claimed they were dumped on their property.” Despite knowing the challenges ahead, Tanya couldn’t turn her back on Violet and her needy puppies.

Upon arrival at the rescue, the staff found Violet to be extremely emaciated, infested with fleas, and blind in one eye, but her puppies were healthy, demonstrating her dedication as a mother.

“We gave the puppies names that start with ‘V.’ For such a large litter, they all get along wonderfully, often piling up together when they sleep. This may stem from their abandonment and their need for comfort,” Tanya shared. Thankfully, due to the compassion of those willing to help, a brighter future awaited Violet and her puppies.

Better Days Ahead

According to a Facebook post from One of a Kind Pet Rescue, the family required “26 DhPP vaccines, 26 de-worming treatments, one heartworm test for mom, 13 spay/neuter surgeries, 13 flea/tick preventions, 13 heartworm preventions, 13 microchips, and one rabies vaccine for mom” to ensure their well-being. Thanks to the unwavering dedication of the rescue team and countless donations from generous hearts, the recovery was incredibly successful, allowing the puppies to grow into healthy and happy dogs while Violet thrived alongside them.

Eventually, all the puppies became ready for adoption, with six finding their forever homes quickly, while Violet and the remaining puppies patiently waited for their turn. Tanya described Violet as “a lovely girl with a wonderful disposition” who “loves all people and other dogs.” As for the puppies, they undoubtedly promise joy and happiness to their future families.

We remain hopeful that this entire canine family will soon find their happily ever after, bringing joy to themselves and to all who aided them during their most challenging times.
