Officers Spot a Puppy Braving Rain on Tennessee Highway and Step In to Help

Date:

On a rainy day in Kingsport, Tennessee, patrol officer Lance Willis noticed cars slowing down on the highway. Initially thinking there was an accident, he soon discovered that a lonely German Shepherd had wandered onto the road, putting herself in danger amidst the poor visibility.

Determined to rescue the dog, Willis took immediate action. He turned on his blue lights to signal drivers to stop, which typically helped alert them to potential hazards.

The Doggo Gets Rescued

The scared German Shepherd, named Luna, was confused and simply wanted to return home but didn’t know how. When Willis stepped out of his vehicle into the rain and began signaling to her, he could see her relief as she recognized his intent to help.

“There were cars in both lanes that were stopped, so I put on my blue lights because people usually stop when they see blue lights. I called into the radio so they knew where I was,” Trooper Willis said in a video published on Facebook.

As Luna approached him, Willis opened the car door, and she hopped in, sensing his kindness. After securing her, he observed that she had a collar, which indicated she likely had an owner looking for her.

Willis then drove Luna to a parking lot where he awaited animal control to transfer her to Petworks Animal Services, the local shelter.

A Reunion Everyone Hoped For

Meanwhile, Luna’s owner was desperately searching for her. When he discovered the rescue video on Facebook and realized it was his dog, Luna, he felt an immense sense of relief and rushed to the shelter.

The reunion was heartwarming as Luna joyfully reunited with her dad, and they both were elated to be together again, eager to put their ordeal behind them and enjoy life together.

A special thank you to Trooper Willis for his heroic act in rescuing Luna and ensuring she returned to safety. You are a true hero!
