Officer Rescues Puppy Trapped in Septic Drain

Date:

Being a police officer is among the most demanding jobs. Daily, those in uniform face numerous risks.

Yet, their challenges extend beyond simply apprehending criminals or providing rescues.

At times, they find themselves in situations where they must save a helpless animal in distress. Today’s tale features a hero who encountered such a challenge.

Heart-Wrenching Whining From A Septic Drain

Deputies James Gettings and his partner, Troy Glover, were delivering civil process documents at a residence in Fort Pierce, Florida.

As they were leaving, they were startled by a sound that made them stop. A faint whimpering resonated from afar, compelling them to investigate.

As described by the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office on its Facebook page, the deputies traced the sound to a septic drain located in an empty lot.

What they discovered was astonishing. A small, drenched dog was trapped inside, with only its head peeking out. A puppy was caught neck-deep in a collapsed septic drain.

Without hesitation, the officers took swift action and quickly extracted him. Although the dog was nervous when approached, they successfully pulled him to safety using a catch pole.

The puppy was terrified, but they managed to give him a bath several times to help soothe him.

They knew they couldn’t leave him behind, so they devised a plan for his future.

It Didn’t Take Deputy Gettings Long To Decide

The officers began searching the area to see if anyone recognized the dog in hopes of locating his owner.

Sadly, their search did not yield results. However, a strong intuition led Officer Gettings to believe this dog should not go to a shelter.

With conviction, he declared his intention to adopt the dog, feeling it was a matter of fate. He instinctively knew it was the right choice.

And he was certainly right. After tending to his back legs, which had been nonfunctional at the time of rescue, Puddle—as Gettings named him—was finally home.

He was warmly embraced by his wife, Rachael, their two-year-old daughter, Evelyn, and their basset hound, Lacie.

“He mostly likes to lounge around,” the deputy shared in an interview with The Daily Mail. “He loves being home.”

Welcome home, Puddle! We hope you savor your new, cozy environment for many years ahead.
