While Lance Willis, a patrol officer, was driving down a highway in Kingsport, Tennessee, in the pouring rain, he noticed that cars suddenly began to slow down. Initially thinking there might be an accident, he soon realized that a lonely German Shepherd wandering onto the highway was the real cause for the traffic delay. The poor weather conditions made it difficult for drivers to see clearly, putting the dog in danger of being hit. Determined to bring her to safety, Willis sprang into action.
The Doggo Gets Rescued
The German Shepherd, named Luna, was scared and confused as she found herself stranded in traffic, longing to return to her forever home without knowing how. Willis activated his blue lights to signal drivers to stop.
“There were cars in both lanes that were stopped, so I put on my blue lights because people usually stop when they see blue lights. I called into the radio so they knew where I was,” Trooper Willis said in a video published on Facebook.
The trooper navigated to the center lane, stepping into the heavy rain to usher the dog towards him, hoping she’d trust him. As soon as Luna spotted the officer calling her, a sense of relief washed over her, and she slowly approached. Once Willis opened the car door, Luna casually hopped in, sensing she could trust the kind-hearted officer.
With Luna safely inside, Willis closed the door behind her. Noticing her collar, he believed she had an owner and hoped for a swift reunion. He transported her to a nearby parking lot where he awaited animal control to take Luna to Petworks Animal Services, the local shelter.
A Reunion Everyone Hoped For
Meanwhile, Luna’s owner was desperately searching for her, missing her dearly. When he came across Luna’s rescue video on Facebook and recognized his beloved dog, he felt overwhelmed with happiness and relief knowing she was safe. He rushed to the shelter to reclaim her. Just as everyone hoped, Luna joyfully reunited with her dad, who took her home right away. Their nightmare had ended, and they were eager to continue enjoying life together.
