North Carolina Woman Stunned to Find Puppy Stranded in the Road, Quickly Comes to the Rescue

Date:

When Ali Tisdall first encountered a sweet pup named Scarlett, she had no idea of the remarkable impact this furry friend would have on her life. The charming dog appeared in Tisdall’s neighborhood in Spring Creek Township, North Carolina, sporting a collar and wandering as if she were in search of someone. A neighbor brought Scarlett to Tisdall’s home, believing she might belong to their family.

The Tisdall family felt a strong urge to help the pup. As they petted her, Scarlett’s face broke into a wide smile, grateful to meet such caring humans. The family bathed and lavished her with affection, and throughout the weekend, the kids continually stroked her, which Scarlett cherished with her loving smile.

On Monday, the family took Scarlett to the vet, discovered she had an owner, and contacted them. Tisdall learned that Scarlett’s owner had adopted her many years ago, keeping her as an outdoor dog alongside their other three canines due to family allergies. Unfortunately, Scarlett developed separation anxiety when her dad’s job change kept him away for most of the day, causing her to escape frequently in search of her owner. Tisdall recounted, “Ever since he’d switched jobs, she’d been escaping from their fenced land and running down the highway. They tried all kinds of fencing solutions, but none held her in.”

A Difficult Decision

The kind-hearted Tisdall recognized how much the pup’s owner cherished Scarlett. Concerned for the dog’s safety, she kindly offered to rehome her. Subsequently, Scarlett’s dad took her back home, promising to consider Tisdall’s suggestion. Despite missing Scarlett immensely, the Tisdall family continued to love her dearly, hoping to reunite with their beloved girl. The next morning, Scarlett’s owner reached out, informing them that he had made the heart-wrenching decision to accept Tisdall’s offer and let her go. The Tisdalls were ecstatic when Scarlett moved in, showering her with all the love and attention she deserved.

Scarlett thrived in her new home, relishing the indoor life and the affection from her new family. However, despite her love for them, the anxiety remained. Understanding that running was her coping mechanism, her family supported her through it.

Tisdall took the time to research ways to alleviate Scarlett’s anxiety, ultimately deciding to take her on morning runs. Scarlett loved the exercise; it settled her nerves. Tisdall’s husband included her on family hikes, ensuring she was part of their everyday adventures. Gradually, Scarlett blossomed into a happy dog.

Tisdall, who also experiences anxiety, found a profound connection with Scarlett. “I describe myself as both even-keeled and someone with anxiety. So there’s a deep connection there I actually haven’t felt with any other dog. Growing up, I never really saw that as something I could lean into as almost like a huge part of me. And Scarlett made me realize that it’s okay to open your heart,” she shared. Today, Scarlett enjoys her life in North Carolina, surrounded by love and understanding, embarking on adventures with her family and the kids who adore her.
