It’s truly heartbreaking that some cruel individuals mistreat them, filling their hearts with dread.
Mable, an adorable puppy, never experienced the warmth and affection of a kind human touch.
Her heartless owners mistreated her, resulting in a sweet pup transforming into a frightened dog who had lost her trust in people.
Fortunately, she was rescued from her tormentors and taken to a shelter.
Upon her arrival, the shelter staff were disheartened to see Mable. She trembled uncontrollably, her eyes clouded with sorrow.
Despite the staff’s attempts to comfort and pet her, she would not allow anyone near, bracing for harm.
This terrified dog was oblivious to the concept of love.
Mable Meets Her Foster Mom
Angela Marie, the founder of Angela’s Ark, located in Charlotte, North Carolina, and an animal sanctuary in Wyoming, first encountered Mable and immediately identified the intense fear in her lovely eyes.
“The first time I saw her, it was evident in her eyes. It was like she wanted to vanish,” Angela recounted to The Dodo.
Understanding that she had to foster Mable, Angela aimed to assist her in overcoming the trauma.
She created a cozy crate for Mable to feel safe. Although Angela attempted to communicate with her, every approach made Mable anxious, wanting to escape.
Mable would retreat to the back of her crate, trembling and avoiding eye contact with her foster mom.
Angela decided to take Mable to the beach, hoping it would soothe her, but the pup didn’t enjoy walking. She remained tense and on edge.
Throughout their outing, Mable braced for something unpleasant to occur. Her ears were pinned back, and her tail remained tucked.
Trying To Mend Mable’s Broken Heart
Dedicated to Mable’s recovery, Angela made a point to sit on the floor with her, hand-feeding her treats and providing plenty of positive reinforcement.
Slowly but surely, Mable began to adjust to her foster mom’s presence. However, she remained cautious and would still flinch at any attempts to pet her.
After numerous months of cultivating trust, Angela started noticing several significant improvements.
Mable surprised Angela by joyfully dashing around the yard, doing her first zoomies, appearing to forget her troubled past in that moment.
Angela felt a rush of joy and amazement watching Mable’s newfound excitement.
The playful pup grew increasingly at ease during their walks. No longer was her tail tucked in; she was beginning to relish her newfound freedom and the beauty around her.
Rejoicing At The Pup’s Milestones
Angela will forever cherish the moment Mable first invited her to play, approaching her with a joyous expression, bouncing and wagging her tail.
Angela sees this as a pivotal moment in their relationship.
Mable needed time to embrace her foster mom’s affection and realize she was safe.
“The first time I was able to pet Mable, I sat on the floor beside her, gently caressing her, and then I would withdraw my hand. I repeated this many times so she could grow accustomed to a hand moving towards her without associating it with pain,” Angela explained.
Angela feels immense pride in Mable’s journey and accomplishments.
“My favorite aspect of this journey is observing how Mable has evolved compared to the dog she was in the shelter. I’m witnessing less and less of her past every day. The small achievements are not just significant; they are something I will always hold dear,” Angela emphasized.
After nearly a year with her amazing foster mom, Mable is ready to seek her forever family.
Mable longs for caring humans who will accept her, nurture her, and love her endlessly.
Given all that Mable has endured, she truly deserves a happy ending.
