From the moment we embrace our dogs for the first time and welcome them into our homes, they become cherished members of our families. Their happiness becomes our priority, and it’s hard to envision our lives without them. Unfortunately, it’s disheartening to know that not all dog owners share this unconditional love.
Our story revolves around a sweet three-year-old pup named Denny, whose previous family failed to love him as he deserved. Denny’s owners brought him to the vet with the intention of euthanizing him simply because they were moving. Although Denny was blind due to a past injury, he was otherwise a healthy dog.
The vet promptly refused to euthanize him and sought the best way to help the lovely pup. The team was determined to find Denny a family that would value and love him. While waiting in the vet’s office, Denny had no idea that his family was abandoning him. The trusting pup believed he was loved and would never be given up.
Saving Denny’s Life

One of the vet team members reached out to Chrissy Elder, founder of the North Carolina rescue, Forgotten, Now Family. Upon learning about Denny’s situation, Elder felt compelled to help. “No animal deserves to be abandoned, especially one as sweet as Denny,” she stated in an interview. After the rescue agreed to take Denny, his owners decided against euthanizing him, opting to surrender him instead. Elder noted that the owners seemed relieved, happy that Denny would receive a second chance at life.
The Sweetest Chapter Of Denny’s Life

Elder decided to foster Denny, bringing him into her home. While Denny couldn’t see his new surroundings, he felt the absence of his former family and understood that something significant had changed. Knowing that the transition would be challenging for a blind dog, Elder allowed him time to adjust and feel at ease.

She filled Denny’s days with love and cuddles, making him feel adored. All Denny desired was the warmth of his foster mom’s lap, relishing every moment spent cuddling with her. Elder found herself enchanted by Denny’s affectionate nature and charming smile.

“This guy is the sweetest house hippo I’ve ever met. Somehow, he still smiles and just wants to love everyone,” Elder shared on the rescue’s Instagram account.
Not long after welcoming Denny, Elder fell completely in love with him and decided to provide him a forever home filled with love. Denny now radiates happiness, feeling safe and cherished every single day. Together, Denny and his mom embrace the joy of their moments and eagerly anticipate future adventures.
Denny’s joyful ending warms our hearts. We are incredibly grateful to the vet team for reaching out to the Charlotte-based rescue and to Chrissy Elder for making Denny the happiest dog in the world.
