For many days, this tiny puppy was left wondering why someone would so heartlessly abandon her in a ditch. Scared, hungry, and in pain, she waited while slowly losing hope. “Why did you get me if you weren’t going to love me? Why am I hungry? Why am I in a ditch? Why is everything hurting… Why?” Sadly, there were countless unanswered questions, but those didn’t matter anymore. She decided to trust a human voice one last time, and thankfully, she was rewarded with love from someone who would never turn their back on her.
Help Me, Please

The founder of the North Carolina-based rescue, Ruby and Laurel Animal Rescue, Inc., was walking down the road one afternoon when she spotted a tiny white head popping out of the ditch. She couldn’t believe her eyes and as she crouched down to get closer, the terrible smell of the puppy’s mangy skin hit her. It was a miracle that she found her. “This baby has seen the worst of humans, but still belly crawled out of the ditch and into my arms. She will go in first thing tomorrow for medical treatment and vaccines,” Margaret Hamilton, the founder and Executive Director, shared on TikTok.
The puppy, despite being in considerable pain from her harsh experiences, found the strength to crawl into Margaret’s arms, melting with love. She brought the little puppy home for the night, where she trimmed her overgrown nails and gave her a medicated bath. Unfortunately, the poor pup was sunburned and suffering from demodectic mange that left her skin red and painful.
The Road To Recovery

The following morning, Maggie took the puppy to a veterinary clinic for an examination. The vet confirmed that she was heartworm-negative and approximately three years old, but needed medication for her ringworm and mange. Everyone was shocked by her small size, making it hard to believe she was nearing three years old; clearly, she had endured a very rough life.

They decided to name her Slurpee! In just two days since her rescue, Slurpee transformed remarkably, her personality blossoming into the happiest little girl you could imagine. “Slurpee is feeling better by the day, and we are already seeing improvements in her skin condition. Demodectic mange looks scary but is not contagious,” Maggie reported on TikTok.
In a couple of weeks, she will hopefully be completely healthy and put the memories of that ditch far behind her. Better days are ahead for you, sweet girl. If you want to help Slurpee and the wonderful rescue that saved her life, please donate to their Go Fund Me page.
