From the moment we first embrace our dogs and welcome them into our homes, they become cherished family members. Their joy becomes our priority, and we can scarcely envision our lives without our furry friends. It’s disheartening that not all dog owners share this sentiment and feel differently about their companions.
Our story follows a sweet three-year-old pup named Denny, who faced betrayal from the very family that should have loved him. His owners brought him to the vet, intending to have him euthanized simply because they were moving. Although Denny was blind due to an earlier injury, he was otherwise healthy.
The vet refused to euthanize him and instead began considering the best way to help this adorable pup. The team aimed to find a loving family that would appreciate him as he deserved, unaware that Denny was naïvely waiting for his family to return and thinking they would never abandon him.
Saving Denny’s Life

A member of the vet staff reached out to Chrissy Elder, founder of the North Carolina rescue, Forgotten, Now Family, informing her that the owners wanted to have their healthy dog euthanized. Elder responded immediately, expressing the need to help Denny, stating, “No animal deserves to be abandoned, especially one as sweet as Denny,” in an interview.
Upon learning that the rescue was willing to care for him, the owners abandoned their intention to euthanize Denny and agreed to surrender him to the rescue, feeling relieved that he was given a second chance at life.
The Sweetest Chapter Of Denny’s Life

Initially, Denny was unaware of the transition occurring in his life, feeling the void left by his previous family. To ease the adjustment for the blind dog, Elder allowed him time to acclimate to his new environment, providing him with warmth and affection.

Elder showered the affectionate pup with love, and Denny thrived on the attention. He adored cuddling with her and relished being in her lap. Captivated by his loving nature and delightful smile, Elder quickly fell in love with him.
“This guy is the sweetest house hippo I’ve ever met. Somehow he still smiles and just wants to love everyone,” Elder shared on the rescue’s Instagram account.
Not long after welcoming Denny, Elder decided to adopt him, providing him with a loving forever home. The pup now beams with happiness, feeling safe and cherished every day. Together, Denny and Elder look forward to many joyful adventures ahead.
Denny’s heartwarming tale reminds us of the power of love and second chances. We are immensely grateful to the vet team for contacting the rescue and to Chrissy Elder for making Denny the happiest dog in the world.
