For one woman in New York City, the dream of fostering a dog became a reality. Jewelry designer and photographer, Heather Hamm, has always had a deep love for dogs, having grown up with them and longing to foster one. One night while scrolling through Instagram, she came across a post that made her heart race.
An Instagram page, dedicated to sharing information about free furniture in the city, featured a sobering image – an abandoned dog tied to a pole at a subway station, left alone and unclaimed. To Heather, this felt like destiny, prompting her to take immediate action!
It Was Meant To Be
Before spotting this lonely dog, Heather had been searching online for a foster dog from her home. Once she saw the post, her heart began to race. The Nycfreecurb team announced on Instagram, “Someone just tied this dog to a pole at a subway stop.” Despite being unprepared, Heather quickly hopped in a cab to investigate. She felt nervous about her first rescue attempt.
Upon her arrival, any doubt disappeared as the dog greeted her with friendliness, immediately wagging her tail. It was clear that the sweet canine was grateful, licking Heather’s face as if to say, “Thank you, human!” After hours of curiosity, online followers finally received an update when Heather commented:

The dog, later named Peaches, quickly found comfort in Heather’s embrace. After conferring with the New York City police, Heather received permission to take Peaches home, marking the beginning of their incredible journey together. Their bond grew instantly; Peaches displayed friendly behavior and remarkable manners. She already knew some commands, cherished playing fetch, loved park outings, and was particularly fond of plush toys!
Welcoming Peaches into her life has been immensely rewarding for Heather. Despite her past of abandonment, she found a loving foster mom, allowing her heart to heal in the process!
Eventually, Peaches found her forever home, and Heather shared the joyful news that Peaches had been adopted and was receiving all the love she deserved!
“She’s doing wonderful! She’s been adopted recently and is getting absolutely spoiled in her new home,” Heather wrote, celebrating the happy ending for once-abandoned Peaches, who has now become one blissful doggo girl!
