A Long Island resident, shocked after letting his dogs out to play, noticed an unusual lump by his fence. Curious, he called his dogs back and approached the mystery, only to be astounded by the sight of a baby owl huddled quietly in his yard.
The Little Baby Is Safe
The homeowner quickly contacted the Strong Island Animal Rescue League. Frankie Floridia, a wildlife handler, hurried to the scene, finding the homeowner still in shock yet captivated by the owl’s beauty. “He’d never seen an owl down like that. So he was nervous,” Floridia shared with The Dodo.
Wearing gloves, Floridia approached the fence, admiring the owl’s stunning feathers and enigmatic yellow eyes.
“He’s a majestic creature. He’s beautiful. It’s such a rare creature to see,” Floridia said.
Gently cradling the baby owl, he was relieved that it remained calm. As Floridia transported her to the cage, he reassured her that she was safe. The majestic creature seemed to breathe easier, grateful to be rescued, and was taken to the Sweetbriar Nature Center in Long Island.
At The Nature Center
Upon arrival at the nature center, the baby owl underwent a thorough medical checkup. Fortunately, the rescue staff discovered it had no injuries, although it was clear the baby had missed its family after being separated too soon. Hungry and in need of care, the staff fed him treats while assuring him everything would be alright. Thanks to their dedication, the owl soon began to recover and was seen flying around the facility.
Despite the unexpected turn of events that day, we hope the baby owl appreciated the kindness and care shown by humans. Once fully recovered, the staff released the enchanting owl back into the wild. With joy, the baby spread its wings and took to the skies, free once more.
