When a Long Island resident let his dogs out to play, he could hardly anticipate the surprise that awaited him. While watching his pups frolic in the yard, he noticed a peculiar lump near the fence and called his dogs back inside, curiously approaching the unexplained object.
To his amazement, the mystery lump turned out to be a baby owl huddled in his yard, leaving him in shock. Recognizing the need for help, the homeowner promptly contacted the Strong Island Animal Rescue League.
The Little Baby Is Safe
Wildlife handler Frankie Floridia rushed to the scene of the discovery. Upon his arrival at the Long Island home, he found the homeowner still in awe of the beautiful creature before him. “He’d never seen an owl down like that, so he was nervous,” Floridia shared with The Dodo.
Floridia donned gloves and cautiously approached the owl, taking a moment to appreciate its stunning feathers and enigmatic yellow eyes as owls are typically elusive creatures that prefer trees and nighttime.
“He’s a majestic creature. He’s beautiful. It’s such a rare creature to see,” Floridia remarked.
Gently cradling the baby owl in his hands, Floridia was relieved to see that it made no attempt to fight back. As he carried the bird to the cage, he reassured it of its newfound safety. The owl appeared to thrive on the attention, showcasing its majestic elegance, and was promptly taken to the Sweetbriar Nature Center in Long Island, where it would receive proper care.
At The Nature Center
Upon arriving at the nature center, the baby owl underwent a thorough medical checkup. Fortunately, the rescue staff confirmed that the owl was unharmed, though it clearly missed its family after being separated too soon. Eager to care for him, the staff fed the hungry baby owl, ensuring it was well taken care of and comforted.
Thanks to the dedication and exceptional care from the staff, the owl soon began to recover, flying around the nature center with newfound energy. While its adventure did not go as originally intended, the baby owl experienced remarkable kindness and compassion from its human rescuers. After a full recovery, the staff successfully released the beautiful bird back into the wild, where it joyfully spread its wings and soared into the sky.
