One summer morning, the Cuse Pit Crew (CPC), a nonprofit from Syracuse, N.Y., had an unexpected and challenging start to their day. They received distressing news that someone had left their senior dog, Max, tied up at a park, which deeply affected the entire crew.
Rallying to the scene, they contacted the Syracuse Police and Dog Control to ensure that this sweet boy received the urgent assistance he needed.
A Heartbreaking Discovery

As advocates for responsible Pit Bull ownership, the sight of Max, forlorn and waiting for help, brought tears to the crew’s eyes. Fortunately, a turn of events was on the horizon.
“This morning, sweet Max was left tied to a picnic bench in Syracuse’s Schiller Park along with this note. We met Syracuse Police and Dog Control there, who then took pictures and transported Max to the emergency vet for care,” the Cuse Pit Crew shared in a Facebook post.
Before they got Max into their car, they noticed a note taped to a pole nearby that revealed his story. The note read: “I’m a good boy. I am 17 years old. My name is Max. My owners can’t take care of me no more. Please help me!”

The CPC reached out to local authorities to find Max a temporary home for him to relax and recover, insisting that this situation could have been prevented. They emphasized: “Max is not the first, nor will he be the last dog abandoned in a park. We believe this could’ve been avoided if more people were aware of our services. We are not a rescue, BUT we will help problem-solve with you to the best of our ability, without judgment, as we want pet owners to feel safe coming to us for help.”

Everything Will Be Okay
The CPC later provided updates confirming that, after his medical assessments, Max was taken in by the wonderful team at HumaneCNY, who found him a caring temporary home. Max is being treated for infections in his eyes and ears, as well as arthritis; however, apart from that, this sweet boy is flourishing!
Max is enjoying the care and attention he now receives. Given that he is significantly underweight, his new humans are ensuring that he gets all the healthy and nutritious food he needs to reach his desired weight.

With time, we are certain that this sweet pup will grow strong and find a loving forever family. He truly deserves the happy life that was meant for him. Best of luck, Max! Good things are on the way!
