New York Pastor Surprised to Discover Furry Creature Stuck Under Door and Went to Investigate

Date:

For most of us, going to work isn’t particularly exciting – unless you’re someone whose job involves skydiving. For the majority, it usually means early mornings, dealing with traffic, and stopping for coffee or breakfast. Pastors share this routine too; their days may be filled with prayer rather than paperwork, yet they often face the same predictable patterns.

However, now and then, an unexpected event can disrupt the daily monotony. One such instance involves a pastor who has an unbelievable story to share.

A Sticky Situation

Upon arriving at his church in Long Island, New York, this pastor was met with a surprise at the door that he hadn’t expected. A small furry creature attempted to enter the church but unfortunately got stuck. Upon closer inspection, it turned out to be a raccoon.

Recognizing that wild raccoons could carry rabies, the pastor decided it was best to leave the creature alone in hopes that it would find its way out. However, after a couple of days, he checked on the raccoon and saw it was still stuck, prompting him to call for help.

He contacted local rescuer John Debacker, who expressed his surprise upon hearing the call: “I couldn’t believe that he was still there for so many days. I was happy that I got the call so he could have a chance,” Debacker stated to The Dodo.

Debacker To The Rescue

Given the raccoon’s prolonged confinement without food or water, Debacker realized that its chances for survival were dwindling. With a hopeful mindset, he was determined to do whatever it took to ensure the safety of this furry friend.

“It took a holiday miracle to save his life,” Debacker shared in a Facebook post detailing the remarkable rescue.

To avoid frightening the already anxious raccoon, Debacker gently approached the door and slowly opened it, providing enough space for the raccoon to wiggle free. Miraculously, the little one remained calm, as if he sensed that help had arrived.

“He was very calm. Normally, they flip out, but I believe he knew I was there to help,” Debacker observed.

Debacker successfully reunited with the raccoon at the church’s entrance, placing it into a carrier to transport it to a local rehabilitation center. After all it had endured, this little creature required a complete medical evaluation.

Final Word

Always remember that, regardless of how cute they may appear, approaching a wild raccoon is not advisable. These animals can carry rabies, a serious virus that impacts your nervous system with potentially fatal outcomes. It’s best to leave them to the professionals. So, if you encounter one that requires assistance, don’t hesitate to reach out to local rescuers.
