New York Mama Dog Hears Puppy Whining in Nearby Shelter Kennel and Attempts to Reach Him Through the Bars

Date:

When Paris was admitted to the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter in Wantagh, New York, she felt a deep sadness. The staff didn’t know much about her history but suspected she had been overbred. Watching other dogs pass her kennel without any interest, she appeared quite reserved. However, that changed when she met a recently rescued Pit Bull puppy.

Comforting A Crying Puppy

The staff placed a puppy named Bruce Willis in the kennel next to Paris. Alone and missing his littermates, he cried inconsolably. Hearing his sobs broke Paris’s heart and awakened her motherly instincts. She rushed to the kennel door, pushing her face against the opening in a desperate attempt to comfort him. Although they couldn’t see each other through the bars, the presence of one another brought solace.

“You can even see the puppy (Bruce Willis) lean up against the kennel to be with her,” the shelter wrote on Instagram.

The shelter staff witnessed the touching moment between the two lonely souls reaching for one another, and despite not testing Paris with other dogs, they felt confident to introduce her to Bruce Willis. Their instincts were correct—Paris and Bruce immediately hit it off, happily playing and smiling together.

These two pups formed a strong bond, becoming best friends and enjoying time together until they were placed in foster homes.

Looking For Someone To Give Her A Chance

Sadly, Paris was returned to the shelter after less than two weeks with her foster family. They reported she was wonderful overnight and loved human interaction, but her pacing around the house suggested she was searching for her puppies, as noted by her foster mom. As Alex Charalambous at the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter remarked, “It almost seems like, because she has been a [mama], she looks for her babies.”

Once back at the shelter, Paris took to looking after the puppies, offering them her love, and even befriended Bruce Willis’ brother. While she enjoys nurturing the shelter pups, the staff knows a loving forever home is what she truly deserves. Until that day comes, her shelter friends will continue showering her with the affection she craves.
