Every day, organizations issue warnings about the increasing risks faced by animals and the overflowing shelters. Yet, some heartless individuals persist in mistreating their pets, with abandonment being one of the most devastating outcomes. This situation is exacerbated by those who breed dogs purely for profit, prioritizing financial gain over the well-being of these beings, often leading to tragic outcomes.
Recently, a group of rescuers found three shivering puppies left outside the Paterson shelter, highlighting a heartbreaking lesson for us all.
Poor Little Lives

Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge (RBARI), located in Oakland, New Jersey, shared a dramatic update via their Facebook post. They stated, “!! Urgent Rescue in Progress ‼️ Sick puppies dumped outside Paterson shelter!”
The puppies were discovered in dire condition—cold, sickly, and malnourished. RBARI speculated that they were “some sort of micro breed of Boston terrier,” all around eight weeks old and male. Sadly, their mother was nowhere in sight, and no information was available about her or any other puppies. Without delay, the rescuers took the puppies to the hospital for much-needed care.
Glimpse Of Hope

Later that day, RBARI provided another update via Facebook, reporting a positive turn. They announced, “The three tiny micro-Boston pups abandoned outside in the cold are now stable and receiving the medical care that had been so neglected.” In honor of their resilience, they were named Alvin, Simon, and Theodore. Despite their potbellies and upper respiratory issues, the puppies were now on a path to recovery.
Unfortunately, it became clear that the puppies were victims of irresponsible breeding, with their illnesses likely contributing to their abandonment. RBARI wrote, “In the world of backyard breeding, you can’t sell a sick dog.” This motivated the rescuers to provide them with the essential medication, tender loving care, and quality food, which greatly improved their condition.
Soon, the puppies were able to transition to outpatient care in a medical foster home, increasing their chances of recovery. Not only were they provided with necessary supplies, but they were also showered with love, which played a crucial role in their healing. RBARI stated, “Alvin, Simon, and Theodore are finally being doted on as precious lives instead of a rejected commodity.”
An Eye-Opening Tragedy
Their caretakers understood that the journey to health would be challenging, but with their dedication, all three puppies began to thrive. RBARI reported, “All three pups are spunky, running around, wrestling and playing hide and seek one minute – then snuggling and giving love the next,” in a hopeful Facebook post.
However, just as things looked bright, the heartbreaking news arrived: the saddest moment came when Alvin, one of the rescued puppies, passed away. RBARI announced this in a post, stating, “Yesterday, Alvin, one of the three puppies we recently rescued, passed away,” along with a Facebook post.
