New Jersey Rescuers Save Dog Left Behind in Home After Owners’ Eviction

Date:

For dogs, their owners represent home. When they lose their humans, they not only lose shelter but everything they hold dear. One story that breaks the heart comes from New Jersey.

Reeses Puppycups, an eight-year-old American Staffordshire Terrier, faced a devastating situation when her owners were evicted. A week after their departure, Reeses was discovered alone in a bedroom, clinging to memories of her life with them, hoping they would return—sadly, they never did.

Hungry And Dehydrated, Craving Love

During that heartbreaking week without food and care, Reeses became extremely emaciated and weak when the officers from The South Toms River Police Department found her. Thanks to the compassionate team at Associated Humane Popcorn Park Shelter, she was quickly transported to a safe and loving environment where she could begin anew. AHPPS shared that, “Her owners abandoned her when they were evicted from their home. When Reeses was finally found, she was emaciated, dehydrated, and in desperate need of care,” in a Facebook post.

During her veterinary examination, it was revealed that Reeses required more than just love; she also had a couple of tumors that needed surgical removal. After undergoing surgery and receiving the necessary medical care, this sweet girl transformed; she finally experienced the love she was previously denied.

She’s The Whole Package

Reeses not only began to thrive under the care of her caregivers but also completely transformed into a friendly, affectionate dog who won the hearts of everyone around her. The rescue stated,

“Reeses is not a fan of other pets but she sure loves people; she is well-behaved, affectionate, friendly, and an all-around great girl. She enjoys running and playing occasionally but also has a very mellow demeanor.”

Despite her challenging past, Reeses has an incredible zest for life, loving everything and everyone around her. The tough times are behind her; she feels much better now, and although she still needs some medical care, she is ready to embark on a new journey.

When the right time arrives, Reeses will undoubtedly know how to bring joy to her future family. Her vibrant spirit and entertaining nature make her an ideal companion for active families who enjoy daily adventures. She seeks a home with adults, eagerly anticipating her perfect match.

Best of luck, sweet girl! You truly deserve to be loved again.
