New Jersey Rescuers Find Dog Chained in Freezing Conditions and Spring into Action

Date:

When animal control officers at Monmouth County SPCA discovered a chained dog in Asbury Park, New Jersey, they hurried to rescue him from his dire situation. It was freezing, raising their concerns for the dog’s well-being as they approached the scene.

Upon arrival, they found a deeply saddened dog named Kristoff tied to a fence, lying on the frozen ground. His tearful brown eyes conveyed a desperate plea for help.

Receiving Love And Care

The officers wrapped Kristoff in blankets and took him to the shelter, where he felt immense relief knowing that kind-hearted individuals had come to his rescue during such a harsh time. Shortly after arriving, Dr. Nicholette Runko examined him, revealing that he was too weak to stand and required help moving from his cage.

After a thorough bath and gentle care, Kristoff’s spirit began to uplift. He was grateful for the attention and affection showered upon him by the staff.

“We gave him a bath, but he was really sweet and he was just nuzzling his head into ours for pets the entire time we were looking at him,” Runko told GeoBeats Animals.

The medical team estimated Kristoff to be between eight to ten years old. Dr. Runko realized that he likely wouldn’t have survived much longer outside, as he was on the brink of pneumonia. Although it wasn’t clear if Kristoff had spent his entire life outdoors, it was evident he had endured it for quite some time, as evidenced by his stiff joints and inability to walk properly. They began a treatment plan including antibiotics and pain relief, alongside loving care and nutritious meals.

Fortunately, the treatment was effective, and Kristoff started to regain his strength and mobility.

Hoping To Find A Loving Family

As Kristoff’s caretakers spent more time with him, they noticed that he had limited hearing and sight. However, this did not hinder his enjoyment of their companionship, and he cherished the time spent outdoors, basking in their love.

His gentle demeanor quickly won over the hearts of the shelter staff, who felt disheartened knowing he had not received the love he deserved from his previous owner. They were committed to ensuring he lived the best possible life.

“We’re really happy that we were able to rescue him. Everyone here adores him, and we all want, even if the rest of his life is short, we want it to be the best short life that he can imagine,” Runko expressed.

Once all necessary examinations are completed and his owner agrees to surrender him, Kristoff will be on the lookout for a forever home where he can enjoy the retirement he truly deserves.

I eagerly anticipate seeing him thrive in a loving environment filled with care and affection.
