Nervous Pup Returned to Shelter Multiple Times Can’t Stop Shaking in Her Kennel

Date:

When little Cherry arrived at the Clermont County Animal Shelter in Ohio, she was not in great condition.

The shelter staff felt her name suited her, as her body was completely red from a severe case of mange. She was extremely frightened in her new environment and struggled to trust the unfamiliar humans around her.

Yet, the staff at the Ohio shelter refused to give up on Cherry. They dedicated time each day to help her adjust, ultimately helping her come out of her shell.

A New Beginning

The shelter staff observed that although Cherry was reluctant to leave her kennel, she came alive when taken outside into the backyard. They understood that beneath her fear lay a playful pup.

“Most volunteers had to carry her outside, but once away from the commotion, she would spring to life. On the park bench the first day we took her out, I realized her insatiable love for balls. Be it basketballs, heavy medicine balls, or tennis balls, nothing could withstand her enthusiasm,” shared Megan Dashley, a shelter volunteer, with The Dodo.

Fortunately, Cherry eventually learned that the volunteers were her allies. With time, she grew fond of them, relishing fun-filled daily playdates.

Unexpected Events

Before long, Cherry caught the attention of a caring family eager to bring her home.

The shelter team was thrilled to see their efforts pay off. They believed this family could transform a temporary bond into a lasting one.

Sadly, due to unforeseen circumstances, Cherry was returned to the shelter, and her reaction was heartbreaking.

“She’s not herself. She’s uncomfortable and lacking confidence. When Callie walked her yesterday, Cherry was trembling in her kennel, and her tail was tucked the entire walk,” volunteers shared on Facebook.

The poor girl is utterly bewildered, unsure of what went wrong. She had hoped she had found her forever family.

This isn’t the first instance. Over her time at the shelter, Cherry has been adopted and returned multiple times. The staff remains puzzled as to why this lovely girl hasn’t found her permanent home yet.

“Cherry’s true spirit shines outside the shelter. She beams with joy when she feels at ease and happy,” Dashley noted.

Available for Adoption

Cherry is an affectionate girl in search of active humans who can match her energy and enthusiasm.

She yearns for her own backyard to romp and play, but having access to a nearby park would make her equally happy.

Cherry would also appreciate a calm canine companion to join her in her adventures.

The entire shelter team is tirelessly working to help Cherry find a caring home where she can experience joy and safety, accompanied by people who cherish her.

“This girl is a national treasure and a hidden gem. Whoever gets to be with her is incredibly lucky to receive her boundless love,” concluded Dashley.

A Parting Message

Despite the tremendous efforts shelters make to ensure a comfortable, happy environment for their animals, it remains a challenging task.

Animals like Cherry, who have faced repeated disappointments, often find it difficult to trust and may become sad, depressed, or even exhibit aggressive behavior.

Moreover, the loud environment and the absence of constant human companionship can amplify their distress.

If you have the capability to welcome a pet in need of a warm and caring home, please visit your local shelter and bring a smile to a furry friend’s face.

And if you’re interested in adopting Cherry, reach out to the Clermont County Animal Shelter for further details.
