Lotte, a five-month-old puppy, was enveloped in sadness. Instead of enjoying a joyful life filled with playful antics, this little dog faced pain and neglect.
Despite her mistreatment at the hands of her cruel owners, Lotte retained faith in the kindness of people and sought help.
The weak, malnourished pup dragged herself and curled up on a woman’s porch in Texas, desperate for relief.
A Kind Human Rescues Lotte
When the compassionate woman noticed Lotte’s horrible state, her heart broke. Besides being severely underweight, the little pup suffered from a serious case of mange.
Despite attempts to feed her, Lotte turned away the food.
Worried for her health, the caring woman took Lotte to Austin Pets Alive, an animal shelter.
Arriving at the shelter early in the morning, she met Rene, a dedicated volunteer, and pleaded for him to accept Lotte.
Rene was profoundly impacted by Lotte’s plight, which evidenced the neglect she had endured.
“Starved. Covered in mange. And marks around her mouth that look hauntingly like it had been taped shut or potentially muzzled for an excessive amount of time,” the Austin shelter shared in a Facebook post.
Even though Austin Pets Alive was not an intake shelter, the woman insisted that they care for Lotte.
In that moment, the heartbroken volunteer extended his hand toward Lotte, wishing to convey that she was no longer alone.
Lotte reciprocated his kindness, radiating gratitude.
Lotte Shows Gratitude
The kind-hearted volunteer placed Lotte in a kennel and began coordinating with the shelter staff to determine how they could assist her.
When the staff met Lotte, their hearts sank. While unaware of her background, her physical state spoke volumes.
“It is difficult to ascertain the complete extent of her history, but we believe, given the time frames associated with the progression of mange, the state of emaciation, and her disinterest in food, that she was likely neglected or abused,” noted Luis Sanchez, director of public relations and communications at Austin Pets Alive, to Newsweek.
The staff suspects Lotte ended up on a stranger’s porch after escaping her abusive situation.
The medical team quickly attended to Lotte’s urgent needs. They began a treatment plan for her skin and showered her with affection.
The staff did their utmost to uplift Lotte and ease her into a happier mindset.
Despite her traumatic experiences, Lotte endeared herself to the staff with her gentle demeanor.
She gazed at them with eyes full of love, expressing her gratitude for their kindness.
Lotte gradually improved, but she required more time to fully heal.
Once her caregivers nurse her back to vibrant health, she will start the search for a loving foster or forever family.
This sweet puppy desires humans who will shower her with love and demonstrate the joys of a beautiful, fulfilling life.
