Neglected Doberman Discovered in Poor Condition Can’t Contain Joy After Being Rescued

Date:

Sadly, it seems that the world continues to neglect and abandon pups time and time again.

The count of dogs that are abandoned or suffer neglect is on the rise, leaving shelters overflowing with furry friends needing assistance.

Fortunately, there are compassionate individuals striving to help every animal in distress and prove to them that a joyful and loving life is still possible.

One such hero is Donna, a dedicated rescuer from St. Louis who has made it her mission to ensure each dog receives the love they so rightfully deserve.

Finally Rescued

Upon spotting a forsaken Doberman wandering in a random backyard, a neighbor promptly reached out to Donna Lochmann, the chief life-saving officer at Stray Rescue of St. Louis (SRSL).

Without delay, Donna answered the call and headed to the scene.

“Dobermans are not something we see often. I was taken aback. It’s unclear if he was abandoned in this area or what his story is. But he was in really poor condition,” Donna recounted to The Dodo.

Fortunately, this remarkable pup did not resist being leashed, as if he understood that his rescue had finally come.

He was so weak that he couldn’t even jump into the car, but fortunately, he allowed Donna to lift him in.

After securing him inside, they proceeded to the St. Louis rescue shelter.

At The Shelter

Upon arrival at SRSL, the entire team instantly fell for him.

Seeing the condition of this incredibly sweet boy broke their hearts, especially when he eagerly sought hugs and affection whenever possible.

The staff conducted a thorough evaluation on this handsome boy, who was later named Albus Dumbledore.

The assessment revealed that he had a significant, open tumor along with an upper respiratory infection. He was also extremely malnourished and displayed no interest in food.

While the shelter team did everything possible to care for him, what Albus truly required was a nurturing foster home that could offer him personalized attention.

Fortunately, that’s precisely what he received.

“He didn’t stay long before a foster came to take him home,” Donna mentioned.

Brand-New Pup

The time he spent with his foster family was pivotal in Albus’s recovery. Within just four months, he blossomed into a joyful and healthy dog.

“He resembles a true Doberman now, slim and without visible ribs. His appetite has greatly improved and he is getting more accustomed to being touched. He’s always been cuddly, though he wasn’t much for being touched in certain spots. He’s growing and learning every day, even if he gets easily sidetracked,” remarked SRSL in a Facebook post.

The incredible change this pup underwent – transforming from severely malnourished to a joyful and healthy dog – is entirely owed to the commitment, compassion, and care from remarkable individuals.

Without their efforts, who knows what fate awaited the sweet Albus.

This is why I want to take a moment to express gratitude to every rescuer who devotes their time and love to helping animals like Albus and demonstrating that a loving home awaits them.

Thank you!
